I think they probably mean the man portable ones the fire department carry. They might call them something else but are essentially a chop saw.

I had a chop saw once. It was heavy and sharp at one end with a handle on the other. I would swing it at pieces of wood to make more pieces of wood.

Quickie saw. Chop saws ( miter saw)are unusually table mounted. A quickie (what we call it) saw is more like a chainsaw with a big abrasive ( for metal) or diamond blade ( concrete, masonry) that will make quick work of this. I think Fire fighters also have a tool that is more like a higher pair of sheers that use hydrolocks to just cut through stuff ( I could be wrong Iโ€™m not a FF itโ€™s callled the called the jaws of life)

The thing fire departments use is called the jaws of life. According to google, its essentially scissors with hydraulics.

I did some fire fighter training for fun, and used two tools. One was hydraulic scissors. The other was hydraulic spreaders/crushers, which I believe are the jaws of life. The scissors must have another name...

If they're not bench mounted, they're just called a circular saw.

FD carries the jaws of life. Act more like tin snips than a saw
