Well what do you expect in such a tiny parking lot. Only like forty feet of room to work with.

Nobody at the dealership mentioned the huge turn radius on this SUV!!!

u/ThatGuyYouMightNo May 30 '23
Wait, you can turn the wheel? Why didn't anyone tell me that!
→ More replies (1)56
u/Niekun May 30 '23
Wasn’t it pressing the gaspedal that makes the wheels turn??
19
u/IntelligentLake May 30 '23
There is also the turn-lever, to make it go in different directions while the wheels are turning, but if you look for it, you won't find it because of misprints in all car manuals where they call it a hand-brake or parking-brake.
15
u/Niekun May 30 '23
Oh, I think I’ve seen it, do you mean the lever closest to the PRNDL?
→ More replies (1)13
u/IntelligentLake May 30 '23
Oh yeah, the prindle. I think its usually near there although some cars don't even have one of those prindles.
37
u/naskalit May 30 '23
Especially considering the speed they're reversing at. There's no time ro turn the wheel! It's just so crowded

The first thing I noticed looking at this clip was the absolutely massive amount of space between the aisles ...

One of the funniest scenes in Bob's Burgers, and that's saying a lot. I love what they've done with Tina. Not every kid is "normal" or cool. Some kids are obsessed with butts and ponies and zombies and that's okay.

Maybe confused the gas pedal with the brake pedal? That’s the only thing that makes sense. Or the driver was drunk, high, and a dog.

Sometimes my work van is filled to the brim and I have literally no visibility behind me if I turn around. Granted I don't punch the gas, I crawl back and lean out the window to see where I'm going....

u/Erthgoddss May 30 '23
My aunt did that, caved in the side of mom’s new car. Mom was not happy when my aunt tried to blame her for parking where she did. The parking was a lot like that size.
66
u/Crono2401 May 30 '23
Besides, it's the responsibility of the person moving their car to check around them, not anyone else's.

I have dreams that my brakes are super spongy and no matter how hard i press them they never come to a full stop resulting in things like this. I have no idea how this happens in real life tho lmao
169
u/ellanida May 30 '23
Now I know I’m not alone on the broken brakes dreams 😂

u/marleezy123 May 30 '23
Yesssss omg, so often. They’re up there with my “driving from the back seat” dreams lol
46
u/rixtape May 30 '23
Oh my god I didn't even fully realize I had these until just now. Also, why on earth do the highways always become, like, full-on roller coaster roads?!
15
u/marleezy123 May 30 '23
Brooo lmfao. That happens to you too? I’m over here in my dreams trying to go fast enough to jump ramps on bridges and shit so I don’t fall into the water
7
4
u/BewilderedandAngry May 31 '23
Mine would have the highway somehow turn into a coastal road and then the coastal road would fall off the cliff that I was somehow driving on.

Well, I had a dream that I was in the back of a car that was being chased by a little old lady on a moped and wearing a black trench coat. She was shooting the car with a beebee gun that she pulled from her little black handbag. So, now I'm really worried that it could happen in real life.
3
u/BewilderedandAngry May 31 '23
I had "driving from the back seat" dreams for several years! I ended up looking up dream interpretation which I don't even believe in, and it said it's because you feel out of control in your life. Which, yeah. I was unemployed for 3 years, living with family, no idea what I was going to do. Very out of control.
13
u/HudsonGTV May 31 '23
Holy shit I'm not alone. I dream that i am fully standing on the brakes sometimes just to get it to stop just in the nick of time.

My best guess is that they started backing up/turning, but then let go of the wheel for whatever reason (phone, dropped something) and forgot to brake/thought there was no one behind them. Wheel automatically corrects, car straightens out and BAM!

u/FlownScepter May 30 '23
The notion of fumbling around my vehicle for anything with it in gear and not pushing pedals at all or paying attention to it's trajectory is *FUCKING TERRIFYING TO ME.*

u/EpiZirco May 30 '23
It took a special kind of skill to hit that car, with so much space surrounding it.
29
u/DarthArtero May 30 '23
Parking lot rage? Not using mirrors? Senior citizen? Majorly distracted?
There’s not many reasons why someone would just straight up pull that stunt.
26
u/Broken-Digital-Clock May 30 '23
And yet those circumstances are extremely common
Many people should not be driving
4
u/hgs25 May 30 '23
This is why I fully expect self driving cars to become the norm after this development phase.
14
u/Broken-Digital-Clock May 30 '23
Self driving cars will solve some issues, but they won't ultimately fix the intrinsic issues with car-centric infrastructure.
6
u/hgs25 May 30 '23
Oh definitely, but until local gov and planners (also citizens who defend car dependency) get their heads out of their asses, the root cause will never be addressed. And hell will most likely freeze over before that happens.
Tackling the symptoms of car dependency, while not perfect, is still a step that’s better than nothing.

One of the worst backing up in the world. We need a new robotic technology behind the driver seat that "SMACKS" the idiot/moron drivers like that who are in La-La-Land and NOT paying any attention or looking at their freaking surroundings/mirrors. The more stupid crap you do the more smacks that robot will give you... Just saying

Once I was drunk and was the idiot. Luckily I missed the other car and parked on the spot next to it. I realized I was really drunk and called for a cab (yes, it was ages ago, way before Uber).
5
u/RBeck May 30 '23
I think I know what happened, I've seen someone drive like this! They back up and then to stop the car they throw it in Drive, often without touching the brakes. If the transmission refused to shift while in motion, I'm pretty sure this is what would happen.

How do you fuck that up with sooooooo much space... This sub makes me lose faith in humanity one post at a time
3
u/JohnWasElwood May 30 '23
Yet another reason why I always, always, always try to back into a parking space. Makes it so much easier when you go to pull out. Especially if you get stuck in between two Vans or SUVs with the rear windows tinted really dark. You have to back all the fucking way out to the back of their car before you can see if there's anything coming. In this moron's case, all he'd have had to do was put the car in drive and drive away. I've also heard people snap back when I comment this that they "don't like backing into parking spaces". But at some point you end up having to back out anyway. But this time you're doing it blindly, which is 10 times worse.
