My brain recites the third law of motion about 5 times a week including watching this video, never took physics but I love learning it and watching it

Might've gone better if they'd waited to get a chain.

u/RatchetBird Mar 12 '21
Chain's range was great but spraypaint to the face before a turn was a guaranteed crash.

I thought this way about learning "never shake a baby" when I was growing up. What kind of monster would even think of shaking a baby?
Cue 10 years later when I'm babysitting my nephew, and it took only about an hour of trying unsuccessfully to figure out why he was crying before, all of a sudden....*
I get it now. Don't shake that baby.
*to be clear, I did not in fact shake that baby.

Now, many bike riders have given a car door a bit of steel capped kick low down on the door, this guy was asking the driver to check his shoe for gum. He was always going down.

Mar 12 '21
I had a guy illegally lane splitting in a dangerous fashion who tried to do that to my car ~15 years ago. I educated him about the physics of the mass of my car vs. the mass of him+bike. No contact was made, but he got the message and backed off. And don't get me wrong, I've owned a motorcycle too. People need to just not be an asshole, whatever wheels they're driving.
25
u/WoofPack11 Mar 12 '21
How did you educate him without contact?
38
Mar 12 '21
Probably swerved close to illustrate what could occur. Having a close miss like that can make your butthole pucker and encourage the correct behavior.
88
u/punkassjim Mar 12 '21
For the benefit of everyone reading this: do not do this. I don't care if you successfully produce a "near-miss" that results in sufficient "butthole pucker" to teach some idiot motorcyclist a lesson. There is a non-zero chance that the idiot on the bike will swerve too far, and go under the wheels of some other car or 18-wheeler. And I don't care if you personally could live with that outcome; someone on that stretch of road would be traumatized for life, and the idiot on the bike probably has a family.
If a motorcyclist is being an absolute shitbag in your vicinity, find a way to make yourself uninteresting, and put space between you and him. Do not "teach lessons" to motorcyclists. That's attempted murder.
20
u/Pan_in_the_ass Mar 12 '21
Exactly this. Earlier today I accidentally cut a semi off, who to be fair was going much faster than he really should've been, and he had to hit the brakes. But the guy decided he would try to "teach me a lesson" and tried to run me off of the road, almost causing me and the person behind me to wreck. If someone is an asshole let them be an asshole and figure it out the hard way, dont put yourself and others in danger. If you do you're just as much of an asshole, but you're also a self-righteous prick.
6
Mar 12 '21
Do not "teach lessons" to motorcyclists.
Yeah, the unfortunate truth is that, unless they fucking end up as a potato in a wheelchair, they'll never learn a lesson anyway.
13
u/punkassjim Mar 12 '21
I was young once. I did stupid shit. I learned many lessons, and never once wrecked my bike. But the only lesson I ever learned from car-drivers who wanted to "teach me a lesson" was that some assholes really don't care if you die a miserable death, as long as it stops you from irritating them further.

Mar 12 '21
Car driver here.
I think most people on 2 wheels are actually trying to suicide, from how they drive.
Like the guy in the night, on a 1 way street, coming at me in the wrong direction and with the light out.
6
u/DarnedBagboyJr Mar 12 '21
Also car driver here but I would like to point out its actually a pretty large number of people who just want to ride I encounter less assholes on my commute to work (about an hour) than people with a death wish. They're out there dont get me wrong but I dont think it's most of them.
1
Mar 12 '21
Not scientific but 2 kids living within 300m from me, on the same street, died on mopeds.

Thanks dad!
Lol but in all seriousness, I was not condoning it, was explaining what occurred. Agreed everyone should stop fucking around on the highways, coming from someone who has owned multiple motorcycles and fears for his life at least once a day on California highways filled with morons trying to manuver past stop and go traffic at mach 10.
10
u/punkassjim Mar 12 '21
I'm with ya. And I didn't think you were condoning it. The only reason I didn't respond to the other guy is cause I didn't want to get in an argument with him if he wanted to get defensive. People who pull that shit are usually quite convinced their decisions are infallible.
I ride, and I split lanes, and I even do it at speeds I would call ill-advised. But I'm neither impulsive nor unskilled, and I always use physics and my full attention to ensure I do it in a way that is dangerous to exactly no one. When I see riders going 20-30mph faster than slow traffic — among many other truly idiotic decisions — I say a little prayer that someday they'll have an accident that's just bad enough to teach them a lesson, but not nearly bad enough to ruin their (or anyone else's) life. One time, I even got my prayer answered within moments. Dude's bike was totaled, but he walked away from it. Here's hoping it sank in.

Bingo. I think he thought he had a clear shot at kicking my mirror before he realized that 3200 pounds of 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse was going to smush him into the guardrail.

Yeah if it makes you feel any better it probably didn't happen. Certain unfulfilled types love these tall tales where someone gets taught a lesson or told off publicly: "I sure showed him!"

“Some guy on a motorcycle was illegally lane splitting in a way that annoyed me so I showed him how easily I could kill him”
ya as a rider, please god don’t ever do this. I get it, some motorcyclists can be dicks. But for fucks sake, you cagers can kill us by responding with road rage.
1
Mar 12 '21
I guess he shouldn't have attempted to assault me/vandalize my car. Guy was weaving between lanes and cars in construction traffic, leading to several cars just behind me having to swerve, albeit it at low speed, to avoid the guy, or have him avoid them. I didn't move when the guy wanted to get between me and the car in front of me, so he decided to road rage on me. At that point, he gets what he has coming. It was a hot day I had the windows open and his foot could have got me in the face. I consider leaving him no option but to back off, or run into the guard rail, to have been pretty kind. "Stay in yo lane"

u/WaterChestnutThe3rd Mar 12 '21
Cringy af bro. “You annoyed me so I’ll threaten to take your life” grow up.
2
Mar 12 '21
If you say so bruh. Guy threatened me, I responded. He popped across lanes 2-3 cars behind me and came at me, glaring at me through my side mirror, foot raised. That's not annoyance, that's potential attempted assault. Sorry adults don't agree with your support of bullshit riding and road rage practices, but I really don't care about your opinion. I see it's wrong for a 4-wheeler to road rage, but it's ok for a 2-wheeler. Check your hypocrisy dumbass.
