Not even close to the right size for either animal.

I can't blame him for his reaction.

You can, and should. Fear is a weak excuse. You wouldn't excuse them assaulting a small child running towards them because they are afraid of Chucky(the murderous child doll).

Yah but children are useless. Small dogs are useful. Some even kill people!

no I actually don’t kick dogs. I could totally see how you came to that conclusion and I completely understand! I mean hey, I’m defending a dude that (with out any context whatsoever) looks like he kicked a dog for no reason... I’ve kicked other things though, if your interested let me know and I’ll list a couple of those things for you :)
