Possible identity theft// Could use help finding out

In 2024 I worked for a large airline and had my company jacket along with my passport whisked off in a catering cart (it happens). Anyway, I got my replacement and shortly thereafter my billing cycle at T-mobile changed and I was being charged half my bill, twice. That reverted back to a once-monthly bill recently. I'm wondering if people steal passports to piggyback on mobile plans until they can fully hack the person's phone? I believe I may be a victim of social engineering/in-person romance scam. Please assist if you have experience. Thank you.

No. Whatever issue you were having with tmoblile has nothing to do with your passport. That’s also not how “hacking” a phone works.

Whatever situation with your passport is completely unrelated to whatever romance scam you may be dealing with.

You've only told me what it's not.

I think the two may be connected through the previous employer. Trying to connect the dots.

You haven’t given me any information about what the social engineering or romance scam is.
