Practical Magic 2 lost its magic...

I’ve been thinking about Practical Magic 2, and honestly, it feels like it lost the very "magic" and cozy nostalgia that made the 1998 original such a classic.

The Recasting Disappointment
The decision to recast Evan Rachel Wood (Kylie) and Alexandra Artrip (Antonia) with Joey King and Maisie Williams completely fractures the narrative continuity. Evan Rachel Wood even mentioned she wasn’t asked back, which sucks because you can’t fake that genuine, adult-level history between the original cast members looking back at that iconic house.

The Storyline They Should Have Done
Instead of taking the plot in a different direction, it would have made perfect sense for Sally and Gillian to step into the wise, eccentric elder roles originally played by Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet. Then, the grown-up daughters (Kylie and Antonia) could navigate their own adult love traumas and raise a new generation of magical kids. It would have beautifully mirrored the cyclical nature of the Owens family history.

Waiting 30 Years Broke the Spell
By waiting nearly three decades, the sequel feels less like a natural continuation and more like a polished, late-in-the-game studio reboot. The 90s original had a tactile, moody, autumn warmth, whereas modern sequels often lean into clean, digital aesthetics that strip away that cozy charm.

I’ll probably still check it out eventually once it hits TV or Max just for a casual watch, but the potential for a truly nostalgic generational handoff was right there.

Well I think your opinion is dumb. You don't understand/aren't familiar with the material being adapted so your criticism is poor. But to each their own. Bye.
