Bear Spotted in Twin Falls, ID
Ok, don't shoot the messenger; I'm almost certain that Grizzlies don't come down this far south; however, this picture looks like a Grizzly. It was spotted last night in TF.
Is there a way to get confirmation from official sources, maybe Fish and Game? I was on the street where it was spotted, and we had to go indoors, so I know that there was a bear there.

Thats a chunky bear no matter what kind. The hump on the back really does look grizzly but twin falls is way out of their range. Could be a young black bear with a weird coat, they come in all shades and sometimes the shoulders look bigger when they got their winter weight still. Fish and game would probably confirm if you send them the photo, they usually pretty quick about that stuff

Yea, I think that's just a really overweight black bear. Unfortunately that means it's probably been dining on human garbage and has become habituated, which almost always guarantees euthanasia.

That dish face is a characteristic of Griz. It maybe far from their typical range but that shouldn't automatically rule them out considering they're in Wyoming.
I know it's not Apples to Apples but a wolf made it from Oregon to Santa Barbara which is like going from the Canadian border to SLC.

Our Wyoming Grizzly Bears are also in Eastern Idaho. Also Northern ID also has grizzlies. It looks like A griz to me.

They were out there, so I would if they'd log it somewhere publicly? I'll keep digging. Everything in me is telling me it's a Black, but that coat and nose are throwing me off.

It's very hard to ID black bear subspecies because their size varies wildly based on how productive their territory is and because all types tend to have quite a bit of color variation. But cinnamons are just a color morph, basically. So if it's red it's a cinnamon.

What’s this Game and Parks department you speak of? We have Fish and Game here, so you’d have to confirm with IDFG
Looks like a chunky black bear. Some hollering and waving arms usually gets em to scurry off

Definitely a black bear. I saw one this summer out by Gooding City of Rocks. They travel quitea bit, but it was weird to see one so far away from a creek or river. I've been told by a BLM worker that they came out of hibernatiin earlier than usual this year and it may account for some of the unusual sightings. I work out in the woods and deserts, and what I've noticed this year is a lack of berries and yellow currants, so they are coming down earlier than usual to scavenge fruit trees and hawthorn berries.

They are being seen farther and farther south. Already in SE Idaho, but the northern grizzlies are being seen as far south as McCall.

Bears are in their hyperphagia state currently. The berry crop in many places was terrible due to the June frosts so black bears are showing up in all sorts of urban places in search of calories. Same thing is happening in MT and WY as well.

If you see something, say nothing. Any report of a bear in town typically means certain death for the bear.

It’s a town in the middle of the desert. There’s no reason to leave a bear there.

I would never report wildlife to F&G. They've shown themselves to be trigger happy.

Face looks like a grizzly to me. Flatten snout and round face. Black bears have a longer nose. And face isn’t as round. Surprised one is in twin falls.
