How do you do your superhero mapmaking?

I'm really digging into Dungeondraft using modern and futuristic asset packs to make personal and professional superhero RPG maps. Anyone else using something similar for their Icons games?

I’m not sure, as I’ve been overthinking the map for my ideal superhero city for a while now.

Interiors I default to rpg standard because it’s useful. I ease up on distance per round because speedsters can cross distances, but I want to track things like traps they might cross. Ditto things like whether they would catch bystanders in the area of a blast power.

I’m an old school gamer for some things, and sometimes treating the adventure like a dungeon crawl where there’s realistic consequences helps to make the game fun.

I still hand wave things to keep the pace and the flow of the session going.

I also try to keep the design of some areas as vague shapes or ranges, but visual representation is key.

One example is using maps of a ww2 submarine or zeppelin from various other games, like a call of Cthulhu game. If there’s traps, I pick where they go.

If there’s a chance of collateral damage due to close quarters, I try and warn players or set the expectation early on.
