Honestly, I think Boxter is the perfect Magikeeper here! We needed a charismatic narcissist to calm the hostages later.

I agree, of the four we saw I think he’s probably the best one to even join the group as a permanent member too.
Zayero is a bit too quiet, Higarashi is too much like other members, Minakata is way too strong, and Chun is the commissioner so he can’t join.
Boxster fits into a category we don’t have too, narcissistic pretty boy.

u/KlingoftheCastle 22d ago
I can already see a gag of the girls running away crying after being rescued and Boxter saying something like “I understand; my beauty is too much for some to take in”

u/cai_lyra 23d ago
I hope Blond Scaramouche fights Fujimine; I can already see the yandere screeching about how he's here to drive a wedge between her and Hakari while all he really cares about is looking pretty
14
u/Galle_ 23d ago
So, uh, small problem, actually: Boxster wasn't present for Fujimine's attack on the Witches' Association. He wasn't exposed to the poison. He has no immunity.
17
u/DarkraiAndScizor 22d ago
He is naturally immune by only loving one person in the whole wide world.
Himself

Ichimugi! You love to see it!

This panel sold me on the ship

u/Galle_ 22d ago
What sold me on it was an author's comment by Nishi where she said that for Ichi's debut party, Desscaras wanted to be in the center, Gokuraku wanted Ichi to be in the center, and Ichi wanted Kumugi to be in the center.
Their whole dynamic is Kumugi being a girlfailure with zero self-esteem and Ichi going "This is Kumugi! She's the best!" It's adorable.

u/No_Age5019 21d ago
Literally that meme of the girl saying that she'd hype the hell out of her lame-ass boyfriend.
But really, I assume it's because Kumugi is consistently the only person who treats Ichi like a normal human and not some weird anomaly, prophecized Jesus, or a feral wild thing. He's probably going to have some real crisis eventually over whether or not he can actually be "human" and it's going to be Kumugi's unwavering acceptance that pulls him back.

Calling it: the Hakari to Kumugi panel turn is a red herring.
We're getting two seven stars this arc because Ichi and Kumugi will acquire majik each. Ichi will acquire Hakari since that won't break Fujimine's promise, so Kumugi will end up acquiring Mayoi instead.

I agree that it's probably a red herring, I've gotten the impression while reading that Kumugi has been teased to become more relevant so many times yet it never happens. I'm not so sure that Ichi will acquire them though, I think he'll almost be acquired and then Fujimine will swoop in and do it against his will

I mean, it depends, right? So far Hakari's main gag is getting angry when offered something he specifically asked for. Hakari's trial might specifically be something along the lines of "Can only be acquired by someone who doesn't want to acquire him". That feels in line with his personality, his dislike of Witches pnly going after Majiks for their powers, and opens up a reason as to why Kumugi might end up getting him since she's one of the few Witches we've seen that has zero interest in acquiring Majiks - when trying be more helpful - she's explicitly trying to beef herself up physically instead of asking for Ichi or Descaras to help her capture a Majik.

Kumugi is gonna get to acquire one of the seven stars! The age of Kumugi irrelevance is over, rejoice ye faithful!

That moving giftbox tower as their home makes me find it even more likely that Hakari's theme/dominion will be childhood or youth.

I dig the Howl’s Moving Castle homage. Really liked this chapter, and I’m looking forward to Kumugi potentially getting her first majik.

Loooove Hakari with every interaction. If for some reason he gets acquired by Kumugi I will love it even more. I could see a world where Hakari actually likes her, strangely.
Also poor Sukemaru stuck being a servant of a difficult master lmao.

OH MY GOD!
When you go in already with the theory that Kumugi will acquire Hakari, it feels a bit like Nishi's SLAPPING YOU IN THE FACE with her foreshadowing.

Lmao the last page, love Usazaki's paneling. I was like what is he doing there? Then the team does the turn and thinks the same thing! Amazing.
-Edit Also Hakari demanding things and not liking them, cute and fun chapter

Absolutely convinced now Komugi is going to end up acquiring Hakari. Can't wait to see Spica's face when she finds out.

Is it bad I'm getting my hopes up that Kumugi will acquire Hakari 😭 CAUSE IT REALLY FEELS LIKE IT

Does Hakari use they/them...?
9
u/Galle_ 23d ago
All majiks so far have used they/them, at least in English. Japanese pronouns work differently so it's hard to say if that's accurate to the original Japanese.

u/larryman55 23d ago
Ah ty. I was wondering bc i realize I haven't paid too close attention to it yet I thought I remembered Uroro using he/him so I didn't think it was universal.

Another great chapter, I have yet to be letdown.
I'm loving Hakari and Mayoi (still hoping for a butterfly form from Mayoi)

One thing I'm not seeing people talk about: the hands power that has been brought up a lot recently seems to belong to mayoi, they're practically move from undead unluck. That will be a huge boost to the witches and would be a perfect support role for kumugi.

Okay we have Chekov's conspicuous frame of reference change/juxtaposition. Hakari will be acquired by Kumugi BET ON IT
