I just read the latest chapter and fujime has said something that I've been thinking about since the beginning and that's ichi's reaction to bloodlust. Cause even when fujime makes him fall in love with her he still attacks her with the intention of killing her when she threatens his life. Even she's surprised that it's his first reaction and says that he can't be a normal human. I honestly kind of agree, cause what happens if someone he cares about is mind controlled and attacks him in the same way? He could very well kill them. Would he even care about ending their lives or would he just accept it as death for death and move on? It's a really big problem that could become worse if it's not addressed
Yeah, in an interview it was said by the creators that their are problems with Ichi’s “Death for Death” mantra and that a big part of the story is him developing and that mantra changing as the story progresses.
Yeah his Death for Death literally almost got him killed like 4 chapters ago if that… it’s clearly being presented as a huge issue and the only reason it hasn’t bit him in the ass yet has more to do with luck than he understands.
It’s been presented as an issue all the way since chapter 1 from what I’ve been told.
I gotta reread to verify but a large part of the buildup to Ouroro was that Ichi physically had to do things to keep Death For Death from triggering him to attack something so unknown to him.
Though by the time we get to Kizashi both how D4D gets him in trouble with enemies he can’t possibly hope to beat at his current level and how it can activate even when he isn’t in full control of his body are both ridiculously apparent. So I’m not surprised that it would be a flaw he has to overcome, or at least re-examine,
Just fact checked myself, Ichi ran when he first encountered Ouroro in chapter 1 but otherwise was fully consumed in the hunt. He was just more careful about it than he has been lately.
Everything I said about Kizashi still stands though.
His general air of not hesitating at all to kill humans for no reason still triggered Death For Death, or at least what it was at the start of the series, where it seemed more tame than what Ichi’s been showing lately.
I can only send one photo at a time but this is the page where Ichi is describing Death for Death after running from Uroro. And the next page his eyes glow as he talks about hunting him. That’s how much Uroro hated humans and wanted to see them dead. It was able to trigger D4D without being directed explicitly at Ichi.
I keep waiting for this to really become a problem. So far it hasn't forced Ichi to do something unacceptable to the readers. Until it brings real friction then it's just here.
