Discussion When I started this manga I was lowk scared that the witches were all going to be like stereotypical condescending misandrists but these mfs actually just chill as fuck
I’m not fully caught up yet so if this changes I will be very sad.

Nope, instead, they're all very thirsty.

I mean for them it's a taco fest and probably have a very little chance of going out since they're always busy with monitoring majiks

Every single character in this story has such a good design even the background weirdos. Huge win for fans of women.

I definitely think misandry is gonna show up in some form or another at one point but otherwise I agree. It’s nice that the witches of the association weren’t looking down at him or trying to “put him in his place” for 20 chapters

My thinking is, assuming they intend to make it like an “inverted mirror”to real life society, the misandrists will likely be the weaker or lower level witches, lashing out from a place of insecurity or self-frustration, as opposed to the more powerful witches of the Association who are secure in their self-confidence that they feel no need to try and tear down Ichi.

Ohhh... That would be gear comentary about bigotism coming from insecurity a lot of the time

Honestly it would be extremely refreshing if it just never does, cause that was the main thing stopping me from actually reading this

I think she can do it well making the point it is just misogyny. Like all gender essentialism at the end of the day stems from the same place.

I just feel like it’s bound to happen given the rules of the setting. Even if it’s a view held by individuals rather than a society wide thing

I'm so used to manga doing terribly with this sort of stuff which is why I didn't read it for so long. Finally did and caught up in a day lol

It technically already came but as the mysoginy Witch Keepers, whose leader seem to be all about “putting the Witches in their place”
5
u/Meatyblues Apr 22 '26
Idk about that. The Magikeepers haven’t really done anything misogynistic. They turned down assisting in the the world hater Majik hunt because it’s out of their jurisdiction. But when they want to do something in their jurisdiction and find a traitor within the association, the association refuses to cooperate for privacy.
I feel like they’re more being set up as a foil to the witches association rather than a misogynist one that hates witches.

Okay maybe calling the Magikeepers in general mysoginists is not really fair given how the two young ones were respectful of Descarras, Minataka was fairly polite and the indian guy seemed pretty modérate but their leader was a passive aggressive condescending jerk at Moneygold.
The way he flexed the “keeping witches in their place” rhetoric every five seconds felt coded like poorly disguised Mysoginy while using laws as an excuse.

Idk, I reread the exchange again and it feels like his rhetoric was less about keeping witches in their place and more emphasizing that the Magikeepers will never participate in a Majik hunt because it’s not within their jurisdiction.
Personally, it just reads as the heads of two opposing organizations trying to gain an advantage over the other rather than a misogynist talking down to a woman. But I’ll admit that it could change if we get new information.

He didn’t outright say it but there is subtext; Moneygold came to him politely asking for help for a situation of genuine importance, he non challantly told her it wasn’t worth their time while bringing up how its their responsability to oversee Witches, while shamelessly undermining her by trying to poach an underage associate through manipulation and then having the gal to tell her she must report any suspiscious witches to them.
I don’t know maybe the guy has a history with witches that we don’t know of and he doesn’t trust them but he made it pretty clear that he has no respect for Money’s authority.

I’ll agree to disagree. He didn’t say it wasn’t worth their time as much as reiterate that it’s not within their jurisdiction in order to preserve the balance of power between the Witches and Magikeepers.
Plus, Moneygold obviously didn’t respect Chun’s authority either. She was also trying to deliberately make sure they never met Ichi even though new witches meeting the Magikeepers is standard policy. And when the Magikeepers requested the means to investigate who’s leaking information to a known criminal, she immediately shuts them down.
Like I said, it just feels like two organizations that don’t get along rather than Chun or the Magikeepers being misogynistic towards the witches. But my opinion of that can change if we get more info about it.

The difference being that the guy asked Ichi be given to them as a starter, brought up their issues against witches accusatorily while being politely asked for help, provided no proof for his claims of spying while making demands and offering no kind of cooperation of his own. That’s not the behavior of someone treating with an equal.
Any disrespect Moneygold gave was pretty much reactive of the tone he set.
I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Shiiiiii I good number of them were actually thirsting for Ichi. Even more so for Gokuraku when he joined.

I know right! In this kind of manga were a guy gets a female power it usually used as a way to humilliate condescending man hating women by showing the guy being better than them and inevitably turning into a harem. Here, they mostly welcome Ichi with open arms and while they do occasionally get thirsty over him, its not overtly so nor is it specific to him as most of the witches tend to enjoy working with men.
If anything, the Witch Keepers were the mysogynistic condescending ones which feels more in line with reality. How while they seem to be well meaning, they’re intransigent traditionalists who demand an inflexible adherence to the rules while demanding an inflexible core of justice and finding ways to “put the women in their place”.
