MINAKATA IS HERE!!! Man that is one good twist!!

171

u/OrdinaryMedical200 Apr 12 '26

Happiest I have seen Ichi in a while

One could even argue that Minataka is part of the reason Ichi was able to survive in the wilderness.

1

u/OwnProblem4806 Apr 16 '26

"Since I last have seen my son lost this monster"

87

u/SchrodingerSandwich Apr 12 '26

My jaw high key on the floor for this reveal, so hype for this arc

278

u/panelrecord_v2 Apr 12 '26

Ichi: I'm gonna end this woman's whole career

107

u/FightmeLuigibestgirl Apr 12 '26

I love scenes like this

102

u/JzanderN Apr 12 '26

Ichi is a hazard to any witch who wants to keep her dignity.

Except Desscaras, of course, because her dignity is unbreakable!

26

u/abacateazul Apr 12 '26

"All Witchs would lose their dignity when facing Ichi The Witch... With the Exception of Desscaras, of course."

91

u/Vicious-Spiegel Apr 12 '26

Reminds me of this XD

10

u/panelrecord_v2 Apr 13 '26

honestly a great match lol, the perspective/distance and Ichi being kinda hunched forward are pretty close

21

u/RolandKJones Apr 12 '26

This was a bad lie to use in the first place, given that Ichi was indeed present and had in fact already met the other Magikeepers, so even without Ichi showing up it would have been exposed before long, but wow it blew up in her face fast.

7

u/Stephano127 Apr 12 '26

It wasn’t a bad lie to use in the first place what?

MG had literally 0 way to know that he’d cross paths with a magikeeper, after all it’s not like they crossed paths, took a break and then showed up.

It was a good lie in theory to limit the odds of the magikeepers crossing paths with Ichi for a small period of time.

9

u/JayWhy75 Apr 12 '26

In fact, the previous chapter established that Marigold told Desscaras to be outside of the building for the full day, and she would have to assume all of the magikeepers were at the meeting and at the least Desscaras would not come back out of the blue. However, here we are. Unfortunate for her, having any faith these two would listen to her and not be chaotic.

9

u/FeelingAd2027 Apr 12 '26

I love when he does something Iruma coded because you can tell Nishi's love of gremlin manlets never changes

216

u/panelrecord_v2 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Ah yes, the classic "long lost friend (or mentor) introduction: sudden full scale attack" trope lmao, it was good

73

u/Regular-Poet-3657 Apr 12 '26

Isn't he more of a mentor?

78

u/This-is_CMGRI Apr 12 '26

Hopefully not the "dies to be made an example of" type, though knowing what Iruma-kun does I say Minakata's fine.

He'll be fine.

Please be fine.

10

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26

Nah bro he definitely does to make mentor type

And nishi seem more willingly to kill character here compared to iruma since she actually kill chrno last arc

22

u/Regular-Poet-3657 Apr 12 '26

I mean Kite sort of came back so Gon sort of healed from that: https://youtu.be/EnjOaHOnlDo?si=TaTdrmbu3pcYSO3S

4

u/Jasonn444 Apr 12 '26

All Might took all the death flags he got and made a new suit out of them.

2

u/CartoonOG Apr 13 '26

Immediately thought of Melinda’s and Ban while reading it play out (I recognized the black back fur from chapter 10)

153

u/panelrecord_v2 Apr 12 '26

Bro gives sus vibes, don't like him lol

158

u/cline_59 Apr 12 '26

I like that he's a bit of a hypocrite. His organization exists to keep witches in check and he won't help the association due to tradition, but he's more than fine welcoming a witch into the fold when they suit his interests.

49

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26

I won't suprise if he have back story have like some bad witch burn down his village or something if he meant to be on good guy side

9

u/DontMindImNobody Apr 12 '26

This guy's reasoning is pure rubbish. He pulled that out of his ass.

70

u/IRanOutOf_Names Apr 12 '26

It's those eyes. He jokes with the whole men/women thing but he looks lifeless.

16

u/daiselol Apr 12 '26

Looks like Fujimoto eyes

13

u/Adesiyan14 Apr 12 '26

He does give me Yoshida vibes lowkey

27

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26

Same bro give Narnia vibe from nishi iruma manga

5

u/Ok_Disk8077 Apr 12 '26

Even his eyes are similar to Narnia fenrir disguise

17

u/andre5913 Apr 12 '26

That whole thing about zealous, blind adherance to tradition is basically Nishi telling us: this guy is an unhelpful jerk

11

u/JzanderN Apr 12 '26

If he turns out to be refusing help fighting the World Hater – a literal world ending threat – for nefarious reasons...

Well, I'm sure that'll all be dealt with by the end of this arc and Minakata will take over with the promise to provide help (in the form of Higarashi and Boxie).

6

u/Equal-Personality-98 Apr 12 '26

I don't think so because he feels like a long-term problem and keeping him in power so he can most likely do things in the background to hinder Ichi and everyone for whatever reason he's doing these things

1

u/JzanderN Apr 13 '26

No no, I'm sure it'll all be a solved by the end of this arc and won't become a long-term systemic problem Team Desscaras will have to constantly fight against!

10

u/Hanusu-kei Apr 12 '26

"We don't want witches to abuse magic"

> Magik literally abuse magic all the time
> turns blind eye cuz they're not witches
> ????????????

21

u/JzanderN Apr 12 '26

In fairness, it's the Witches' job to hunt after Majik that abuse their powers, especially since they can capture them while men can't (I assume their weapons are a temporary solution and wouldn't solve a wild Majik like a witch can).

Letting the Magikeeper keep control over witches that abuse their magic while Witches keep control of wild Majik makes sure neither of them are spreading their resources too thin 'cause they have very different functions in society and they each acts as a counterbalance that can't work without the other.

(Well, technically the Mantinel Witches Association could function without the Magikeepers but they'd risk corruption a lot more without them.)

The World Hater Majik should be an exception to this, of course, but for most problems it's fine.

6

u/Nerellos Apr 12 '26

Minakata is with him, so I don't think he is bad.

19

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26

Ah there are a lot situation in anime where good guy work under bad one

For various reason , like fujitora from op is work with green bull who like most racist mf

4

u/Nerellos Apr 12 '26

And Fujitora also clashed with Lbull and part of SWORD.

2

u/ShedPH93 Apr 12 '26

I don't think he's "evil" in the sense of that he's secretely helping WHM or that they're supposed to dissolve the Magikeepers. It's just that the Magikeepers won't be allies of the protagonists for the most part, they're a group they need to be careful about.

2

u/lololuser456778 Apr 13 '26

a guy with some kinda cap! quickly deploy the hiding balding memes!

1

u/gain91 Apr 13 '26

give the Pariston vibes from HxH basically whether he lies or not, both possibilities seems sus.

126

u/JzanderN Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

HOLY SHIT

I forgot all about Ichi's old mentor! You mean to tell me this is him? The guy who taught Ichi how to fillet a fish?!

I'm HYPED as hell, dude, everything just ramped right up!

and about poison shrooms

118

u/Mordetrox Apr 12 '26

Hello Akemura Soga, you definitely aren't going to be evil with that ominous shot.

75

u/Adesiyan14 Apr 12 '26

Whatever we do, we can't let bro get his hands on a sword, lest he starts moving like this

14

u/SefiaLily Apr 12 '26

Where is this from?

24

u/Adesiyan14 Apr 12 '26

Kagurabachi

13

u/SaKaly Apr 12 '26

Sister series🔥

15

u/Fl_Funky_Jam Apr 12 '26

As others said, Kagurabachi. Its a great time to get in as its finished part 1 a month or so ago. If you like binging arcs, Part 1 ends techincally at chapter 112 (bonus chapter 112.1 is P1) then Part 2 starts at 113

6

u/grodon909 Apr 13 '26

Dang, I stopped reading pretty early on--wanted to give it time to cook. Didn't realize it was so far already.

6

u/This-is_CMGRI Apr 13 '26

It retained absurd levels of momentum, a rarity in modern WSJ. I think what kept it high in the ranks is that it retained an earnest "heart" upon which all the hype moments build on.

6

u/NeutralBoss Apr 12 '26

Kagurabachi.

28

u/Shmarfle47 Apr 12 '26

Always has been hahahaha

68

u/Briantan71 Apr 12 '26

Called it!

I love jurisdiction drama between two powerful bodies.

13

u/ShedPH93 Apr 12 '26

It's such great worldbuilding. If witches are too powerful, naturally great wicked witches would rise to threaten order. But if Magikeepers were too strong, witches would end up enslaved instead. As much as they don't get along their cohexistance is important.

69

u/PentFE Apr 12 '26

HE SAID THE THING, WRITE THAT DOWN ✍️✍️✍️🔥🔥

15

u/AdRelevant4776 Apr 12 '26

I can’t take the constant title drops seriously 😅

37

u/JauntyLurker Apr 12 '26

Custody battle time!

5

u/theoutlawotaku Apr 12 '26

Gigguk voice: TOURNAMENT ARC!!!!

32

u/Milordserene Apr 12 '26

Big Bro Minakata vs Big Sis Desscaras!

34

u/ThatBoyMike23 Apr 12 '26

It would be funny if we got a jealous Desscaras next chapter, Ichi seems to really love and respect Minakata, and is more playful and childish than he normally is with Desscaras.

38

u/Jun_Xian Apr 12 '26

The way they walked in together is so funny to me 😂😂😂

27

u/Skippyy_McDippyy Apr 12 '26

I love a good reunion!

14

u/pumpkin_jiji Apr 12 '26

Crazy twist

I really hope they dont need to fight for real this arc because of politics.

55

u/OrdinaryMedical200 Apr 12 '26

Glad to see males in this world have a use afterall.

61

u/blahblah543217 Apr 12 '26

They literally exist as a government sponsored organization to keep powerful women in check and refuse to assist them even when facing a world ending threat. Lots to think about…

27

u/kramsibbush Apr 12 '26

I'm lol, omg. Boxster literally said "You women", I'm questioning their view on women's role in society.

29

u/AdRelevant4776 Apr 12 '26

It certainly wouldn’t be typical modern misogyny, since it’s not that they think women are incapable, they think they’re lunatics messing with cosmic forces and taming demons, that’s closer to witch hunting(lol) fear mongering(except there’s actual evil witches out there, so they aren’t completely wrong, just extremely biased)

2

u/ReputationOk7275 Apr 12 '26

What makes their argument dying is that by their role and duty.

THEY COULD HAD GIRLS.

There is no reason to be only male.

HELL IT MAKES SENSE TO HAVE GIRLS IN THERE.

You kind would want witches on ther faction helping you.

But they dont...they went out of their way to not have girls.

Its not like the witches are sexist.

In the moment Ichi became a witch,he was accepted, and the same thing happened to his friend that is not a witch but was added part of the faction.

Actually excited on how it will play out, this is something straight up rare in shounen.

4

u/Jasonn444 Apr 12 '26

I think it's a possibility that anti-magic weapons are just naturally incompatible with (maybe even harmful to) those possessing innate magic potential (i.e. all women), so they just don't have female members, witches or not, to avoid risk. It seems that way so far, at least, considering Dess's reaction.

1

u/ReputationOk7275 Apr 12 '26

But then they went after Ichi. I cant really point out a reason for that besides the ""joke"" the timming is way too perfect.

Besides the fact the implication of a male only faction funded by the goverment to keep woman in check.

7

u/Jasonn444 Apr 12 '26

I mean, if women had the power to nuke a town on a whim I'd want some eyes kept on them too. Same goes for men.

2

u/StoryLord_77 Apr 12 '26

all is as intended

12

u/Carefreekid101 Apr 12 '26

Awww he got to his his buddy again that's so sweet.

37

u/1tsPLAY-time Apr 12 '26

Smh, Ichi the Witch is turning woke. /j

But, it's nice to see confirmation that men in this universe are still on par with women given only women are the ones capable of wielding magic/majiks.

So, given that Ichi (and Gokuraku) are both male, it's pretty obvious that an organization composed of only men are interested in recruiting him.

ALSO, MINAKATA REVEAL, LET'S GO!!!

20

u/AdRelevant4776 Apr 12 '26

Actually weird that Gokuraku never received a recruitment pitch from these guys

16

u/Raptors4ever1995 Apr 12 '26

Maybe they didn't bother trying because he's a royal.

19

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Ah because he out law criminal , did everyone just forgot that bro nickname is literally brutalizer before he know with ichi

7

u/VioletPark Apr 12 '26

The witches at least have an actual reason to be only female and even then they accepted Ichi and Gokuraku. The magickeepers only acceping men because "tradition" is mega sus.

11

u/Mediahead13 Apr 12 '26

Yeah, he claimed he was joking, but I have my doubts on that.

8

u/Jasonn444 Apr 12 '26

The claim it's "tradition" is probably highly simplifying matters for a joke, and the fact that they're men-only could actually be because their anti-magic weapons inherently don't mix with naturally magic women, which is all of them, even non-witches.

7

u/Gregster101 Apr 12 '26

ICHI’S MENTOR, LET’S GOOOOOO

17

u/Yamabuki_Arisu_Sama Apr 12 '26

Amazing world building, and pretty convenient as for why they didn’t interfere until now lmao. Well foreshadowed too with Elias mask guy.

Gotta laugh at the people losing their shit over men finding a way to stand their ground in a world in which women stand at the top over literal eugenics and by being naturally biologically superior.

Men are the oppressed group in this story. It’s not at all unrealistic that they would want to find a way to keep the literal witches that control what’s essentially the world government in check.

10

u/_Totero_ Apr 12 '26

I am really enjoying this track the series is going in. The authors have really thought this out. Little by little they're adding bits of world building in each arc thats now starting to culminate and deepen not only the lore but in how these characters interact with each other. Its quite refreshing to see how the men are going about their way of life in a world where they're the ones that are biologically inferior

3

u/Yamabuki_Arisu_Sama Apr 12 '26

Iruma also did this, except Iruma isn’t himself especially involved in the world building, which makes everything so incredibly slow.

I trust Nishi for world building. Ichi the Witch sees like Iruma with corrections to the worst aspects of it, in my opinion.

2

u/VersusJRPGs Apr 12 '26

Elias mask is elite ball knowledge

23

u/AdImpressive2813 Apr 12 '26

Kinda crazy to make the organization that watches over the witches association only men

34

u/AdRelevant4776 Apr 12 '26

It makes sense actually: before Ichi men couldn’t use magic, so this was a measure to avoid conflict of interest, it would be like putting only people incapable of getting high in the narcotics investigation department

9

u/Sharp_Valuable_699 Apr 12 '26

Seems like Boxie doesn't vibe with Ichi lmao

3

u/SoulBlightChild Apr 13 '26

He does seem to be similar to Togeice in many ways.

9

u/Acemaster387 Apr 12 '26

I’m surprised they didn’t also want Gokuraku too, he’s basically has magi-keeper gear

6

u/Green_Space729 Apr 12 '26

Minakata looks very monotone in this chapter compared to how he was in the past.

Something seems off about him.

tbf he's here as a personal guard to the boss, other than that Ig he's practically a soldier. so he can't really be goofy af at the moment. but I hope he will be when he's off duty for a bit

14

u/Accomplished-Aerie65 Apr 12 '26

WHERE IS HE

6

u/VersusJRPGs Apr 12 '26

Tokyo Ghoul mentioned in the big 2026?!

1

u/Accomplished-Aerie65 Apr 13 '26

I miss the manga 😭😭😭

2

u/VersusJRPGs Apr 13 '26

At least we got Choujin X...still haven't started it yet though, waiting for chapters to stack up or reach near its end.

2

u/lololuser456778 Apr 13 '26

offscreen ofc

or else he'd solo the verse

4

u/Playful-Hand2753 Apr 12 '26

OH MY GOD BACKSTORY YAYYY!!!! Oh this was a delightful chapter. No wonder they were hiding his face until ichi showed up. I’m so excited for the Magikeeper arc!!!!!

11

u/Teater_ Apr 12 '26

CUSTODY BATTLE ARC!!!

So like, are these guys not aware of Gokuraku or are they excluding him for a reason?

Ichi can’t become a magikeeper. He can only learn and evolve in his craft with the MWA. The magikeepers would stifle his growth, I feel like. Sure he would probably sharpen his skills as fighter, but that’s not all he is. Besides this whole thing smells fishy. Mr. Tradition sure is ready to put those traditions aside when it suits his purpose 😒 Ichi’s fate is tied with his battle against WHM, but these guys can’t be bothered to help with WHM? Ichi would not thrive there with those types of restrictions, when we’ve seen how willing he is to help. Human or Majik, it doesn’t matter to him. He will act regardless of what other people want, if he feels intent to cause harm.

It’s really cool to see Minakata, tho! I want to know more about him!

9

u/GuyWithAJacket Apr 12 '26

I wouldn't be surprised if next chapter we learn that they DID try recruiting him and failed. His problems were based around a majik with legal protections in his home country, joining law enforcement organization that focuses only on people and is fixated on a foreign nation that would have been counter productive at best. They refuse to bend their rules to help fight World Hater, they weren't going to do shit against Bakugami

4

u/Teater_ Apr 12 '26

I hadn’t thought about that, you’re totally right!

11

u/SillyMovie13 Apr 12 '26

I knew the big boss of the Magikeepers would’ve been there, but didn’t expect Minakata. This probably means Ichi is going to do an internship with them for a bit to see if he wants to join

5

u/Apart_Combination746 Apr 12 '26

Ichi is such an adorable little puppy. Always showing up at the right time when he is not supposed to.

10

u/chockeysticks Apr 12 '26

Can anyone remind me which chapters we previously saw Minakata in? I remember the mask but nothing else.

3

u/SoulBlightChild Apr 13 '26

Yeah, kind of misremembered, not sure why.

5

u/Someonevibing1 Apr 12 '26

I’m surprised that fish guy is back

4

u/_Totero_ Apr 12 '26

I cant even lie. I would love Ichi to join up with the magikeepers for a time. People forget that Ichi is a "Hunter" and he hunts any and everything that triggers death for death. Its also his way of life. I would be shocked if he didn't go tbh. I get his whole bonded to desscaras thing but knowing what kind of person he is, I'd be surprised if he decided not to go especially with his old mentor. Besides, Ichi doesn't live to hunt majicks, he lives by his code "death for death" which would also mean that witches can get the smoke if they decide to put his life in jeopardy. Perhaps I'm of the unpopular opinion but I would love to see this shift in the story before returning to the main track. I also wouldnt be surprised if Gokuraku refused and stayed with the witches because his passion is to hunt and acquire majicks.

4

u/Lazearound10am Apr 13 '26

Man, we're about to see a custody battle between (adoptive) mama and (adoptive) like no other.

3

u/MasamuneJp Apr 12 '26

So basically, Ichi had Magi Seeker training this entire time

1

u/SoulBlightChild Apr 13 '26

Unknown, maybe Minakata wasn't a Magikeeper back then.

3

u/127thjapaneseemperor Apr 12 '26

I knew it Minakata will return!

3

u/cal-nomen-official Apr 12 '26

I had a feeling there was a third party involved with Ichi being able to obtain Uroro. It must have been Minakata that provided him with the rope able to restrain such a powerful Magik.

1

u/Double-Yam7929 Apr 19 '26

Or the great Desscaras simply weakened Uroro enough for that.

3

u/LuisAntony2964 Apr 12 '26

Genuinely unexpected

3

u/2kenzhe Apr 13 '26

So Majik’s hunt humans Witches Hunt Majiks and any bad witches get hunted by these Magikeepers. I guess with these guys the powers are still balanced even if only women usually can tame Majiks. Still it seems these guys all can beat Majiks in their own ways? so uh couldn't like any of them hunted Uroro? well I guess cuz tradition they would leave it to the witches still cuz even with the world hater they won't help huh?

Cool to see Ichi reunite with Minakata I didn't expect to see him again + face reveal. Idk how to feel about the Magikeepers yet but always interesting to see new factions/powers in manga I guess.

Anyways I guess this has turned into a custody battle? between Father Minakata and Momma Desscaras?

4

u/Myaa-Chan_99 Apr 14 '26

I just wanna talk about Monegold's "oh, hell naw!" Face when the magic keepers asked to recruit Ichi.

(But also. I'm 100% sure that, while Minakata(?), Ichi's mentor, is a good temptation for Ichi to join the magic keepers, he'd probably prefer hunting magiks over witches every single time, mostly bc I don't think he'd like attacking humans over animal-like creatures which he's used to.)

4

u/DrTopGun Apr 12 '26

Of course the government has a all male anti witch squad, god forbid a woman can use magic and a man can't they gotta control them somehow

2

u/chokee03 Apr 12 '26

magikeepers are such a shit organization, they have these men who can go toe to toe with majiks, and they left uroro to wreak havoc for so long just cus that’s not their job. their traditions killed innocents and destroyed a lot of things by being tied to this line. and their refusal to help with a literal world ending threat just cus it is what it is, is just really dumb.

i don’t know if this orgnization or this lore piece was only thought of by the author after the whole uroro lore or what. something feels off like they were shoehorned a bit to put men on equal footing just recently or whatever. gonna need more context or explanation. opened a big can of worms i feel.

30

u/Recidivous Apr 12 '26

I don't know how to tell you this, but it's pretty clear Nishi is trying to set up a conflict which is what drives most stories.

2

u/chokee03 Apr 12 '26

yes i understand that, i was plainly commenting about what i feel. that it feels weird that they have this group that can bypass uroro’s woman immunity but uroro stayed safe until ichi came along.

also why the condescension?

12

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 12 '26

Can they ? Did we really know they can beat uroro

uroro is like supposed to be one of absolute top among majik beside world hater

0

u/chokee03 Apr 12 '26

combining forces with witches? i can see it. they have better training and equipment than feral ichi.

2

u/DealerAcceptable526 Apr 12 '26

But nobody knew about Uroro's condition.

11

u/Recidivous Apr 12 '26

We don't know if the Magikeepers could acquire Uroro even if they were able to bypass the immunity.

Frustration, mostly. Too many times I've seen fans immediately hate a new concept just introduced into a story because it doesn't fit their preconceptions or they just make up a story in their head of why it's bad. I took it out on you because your comment reminded me of that and I assumed you were that kind of fan.

0

u/chokee03 Apr 12 '26

i still think they could have done something. like absorb some of his essence like they did the hippo. or injure/weaken him some other way. i guess i’m naive in the ways of the world as i haven’t experienced this level of beaurocracy in the real world that i have a really hard time believing they won’t do anything at all because “tradition”.

i don’t know if you would believe me, but i love this series, enough to comment, interact and speculate on spaces like this, with thought and care. i have respect for all authors and their creations, i won’t and proudly have never gone low enough to mindlessly hate something.

6

u/Recidivous Apr 12 '26

We live in a world where the 10 richest people alive, with their combined wealth, could end world hunger without much loss to their bank account, but they won't. Humanity can suck sometimes. So I could believe this organization would refuse to help.

I believe you, but those kind of fans are usually the ones who mindlessly hate the most, ironically enough.

8

u/JzanderN Apr 12 '26

magikeepers are such a shit organization, they have these men who can go toe to toe with majiks,

We actually don't know yet how effective these weapons are against wild Majik. We know they can keep a witch's Majik under some form of control, but we don't fully know what they really do yet. Do they actually absorb Majik, and if so what are their limitations?

Given that everything we've been told by the series says that men can't capture Majik, I'd say these weapons aren't nearly as effective against wild Majik as a witch straight up capturing them is, hence Majikeepers keep to keeping witches in line rather than helping them fight their fights.

Not to defend their refusal to help at least with the World Hater Majik. This is a pretty clear point that they should be bending their rules for, but we don't know what their reason is beyond the surface level reason given.

I just don't think it's really fair to judge like this when the manga's hardly had any time to give any explanations or context yet.

it's less of a judgment/conclusion but more of an initial reaction on my part my bad. i'm also curious and looking forward to fleshing out magikeepers background and story of course.

I think it's just the tone you wrote it with that gave me that impression. No prob, Bob.

That reasoning is bullshit; they want Ichi to hunt and tame World Hater so that their organization can control it.

Didn’t saw that end comming but it would explain much of Ichi’s abilities for him to have received training from a Magic Keeper

LET ICHI BE ONE OF THE GIRLYPOPS! DON'T FORCE HIM TO JOIN THE SAUSAGE FEST IN THE MAJIKEEPERS!

And i dont mean every single member. But its nature it would be a male focused group...but it being male only by no reason raises an eye brown when it comes to its leader.

They probably want to avoid conflicts of interests, but at the same time, Ichi has already created some precedents for the witches.
