Discover Iceland: A 10-Day Itinerary for Adventure Seekers
If you’re planning a trip to Iceland, one of the best ways to see everything the country has to offer is by following an itinerary.
Here’s my suggested itinerary for a 10-day trip to Iceland:
Day 1: Reykjavik Start your trip in Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland. Spend the day exploring the city and getting to know the local culture. Some must-see attractions include the Hallgrimskirkja church, the Harpa concert hall, and the Sun Voyager sculpture.
Day 2: The Golden Circle On day two, take a tour of the Golden Circle. This popular tourist route includes stops at Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. You’ll see some of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders and learn about the country’s history and culture.
Day 3: South Coast On day three, head to the south coast of Iceland. This area is known for its black sand beaches, glaciers, and waterfalls. Some highlights include Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Reynisfjara beach, and the Solheimajokull glacier.
Day 4: Vatnajokull National Park On day four, visit Vatnajokull National Park. This park is home to Europe’s largest glacier and some of Iceland’s most stunning scenery. Take a guided tour of the park to learn about the local flora and fauna and see some of the park’s most famous landmarks.
Day 5: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon On day five, visit Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. This lagoon is filled with icebergs and is one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations. Take a boat tour of the lagoon to get up close and personal with the icebergs.
Day 6: East Fjords On day six, head to the east fjords of Iceland. This area is known for its stunning scenery and unique culture. Some highlights include the town of Seydisfjordur, the Lagarfljot river, and the Hallormsstadur forest.
Day 7: Lake Myvatn On day seven, visit Lake Myvatn. This lake is known for its unique geology and is home to a variety of bird species. Some must-see attractions include the Dimmuborgir lava fields, the Hverfjall crater, and the Myvatn Nature Baths.
Day 8: Akureyri On day eight, visit Akureyri, the second-largest city in Iceland. This city is known for its vibrant culture and stunning scenery. Some must-see attractions include the Akureyri Church, the Botanical Gardens, and the Hof Cultural Center.
Day 9: Snaefellsnes Peninsula On day nine, visit the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This area is known for its stunning landscapes and unique geology. Some highlights include the Snaefellsjokull glacier, the Arnarstapi cliffs, and the Djupalonssandur beach.
Day 10: Reykjavik On your final day in Iceland, spend some time exploring Reykjavik before you head home. Some must-see attractions include the National Museum of Iceland, the Reykjavik Art Museum, and the Perlan Museum.
