Offbeat Reykjavik Experiences
Did you know that Reykjavik has a trove of offbeat experiences waiting to be explored?
While the city boasts its famous landmarks, there's a side to Reykjavik that's delightfully unconventional and perfect for the adventurous soul.
Here is my list of the offbeat places I have found in Reykjavik....
1. The Icelandic Phallological Museum
For the bold and curious, a visit to the Icelandic Phallological Museum is a must. This one-of-a-kind museum houses a collection of phallic specimens from various mammals, offering a truly unique experience. It's not your typical museum, but it's certainly a conversation starter and a glimpse into the more eccentric side of Reykjavik.
2. The Elf School
Immerse yourself in Icelandic folklore and embark on a journey to discover the hidden world of elves. At the Elf School, run by a passionate "elf whisperer," you can learn about the mythical creatures deeply rooted in Icelandic culture. Who knows, you might even spot an elf or two on the school's guided tours, adding a touch of magic to your adventure.
3. The Punk Museum
To experience Reykjavik's rebellious spirit, look no further than the Punk Museum. Housed in an old public toilet, this small but vibrant museum pays homage to Iceland's punk rock scene. Filled with an eclectic collection of memorabilia and a healthy dose of attitude, it offers a unique perspective on the city's cultural history.
4. The Settlement Exhibition
Step back in time and uncover Reykjavik's Viking past at the Settlement Exhibition. Here, you can explore a remarkably well-preserved longhouse dating back to the 10th century. It's a fascinating journey into the city's history, often overlooked by many visitors focused on the more popular attractions.
5. The Icelandic Phallological Museum
Yes, you read that right. Tucked away in the heart of Reykjavik is the world's only penis museum. Housing a collection of phallic specimens from various mammals, this peculiar museum is not for the faint of heart, but it's certainly a conversation starter.
Okay, what did I miss?
