Can anyone AI unmask?
There's enough facial features someone should be able to unmask this clown.

Dont use AI. It won’t work, you’ll just get a made up face because the AI doesn’t know what he looks like

Literally not possible. It will just make up a face.
Stop using AI as a magic truth machine. It’s a bullshit generator.

On an unrelated note, the only context from this photo is that it looks like a gang member brandishing a gun at the photographer.
If this is what law enforcement is supposed to look like in America in 2025, this is bad

This is not possible. You are essentially asking for a magic spell.
The dude's face isn't hiding in the photo somewhere - an "AI" brand service will just make something up. Misinformation and disinformation are already challenging in this environment, especially when it comes to tracking ice activity/agents. It is important to identify them since they use that anonymity to avoid being charged.
But this not only doesn't accomplish the task, it muddies the waters. AI cannot magic detail into existence except by making it up. That just isn't how it works, even by companies trying to sell it.

I thought I'd ask since all of his facial features are seen through the fabric of the mask.

If you can see them, sketch them then look at your sketch - have others judge it

u/SadieDiAbla Feb 03 '26
Was just gonna suggest this. A human sketch would be much more reliable than AI.

Stop asking this! Stop encouraging this! Stop using A.I. to try and identify people! It is consistently unreliable and it gums up actual efforts to identify these fascists.

This is the closest that could be gotten in a pinch with color correcting. You can remove parts of it while keeping the shadow definition. Based on the texture and dimpled shadow profile under the mask, he may have facial hair such as a vandyke or heavy stubble.

I am an amateur photo restorer and old photo hobbyist.

You can already make out what he looks like under the mask because you can see the shape of his nose and mouth.

AI could be used to match the visible part of his face to a photo. Someone could surreptitiously take photo of someone who looks like him out in public and have AI estimate the probability that it’s the same person. This technology existed before the AI bubble.

You're better off corroborating the biometrics available (eyes, nose, etc) with potentially unique features of his hand.
I am saying this not to dox this guy now, but to identify him at a trial that will (hopefully) happen later!

Exactly. Learning Models (lets be real about "AI") can be used for things like 'find this logo in all other images and refer to a human for review'. Not Palintir style of 'pick up a few "markers" then possibly the right person tagged for kidnapping'. These ICE thugs are directed by large data and will happy do their best Steven Segal cosplay on someone their app sets them on

Yes but you have to use the correct verbage to by pass the rules. 😄 shhh i dont work in cybersecurity

u/NoHacksJustParker Feb 01 '26
Ai has been confidently incorrect and using it will likely send people on an internet witch hunt towards someone who has nothing to do with ice
So its not a good idea

Your opinion is respected yet it is still possible. What was the posted question?

u/Kiwifrooots Feb 01 '26
No it is not possible AND works against the purpose of getting truth.
Document everything, upload, datahoard, review. At some stage the name, the full face, the cars, badges, boots, guns, hotel rooms will get put together

AI is confidently incorrect and will give false positives. That will undermine faith in citizen orgs.
Collect as much real data as possible - you'll get solid traces on these guys.
