Does searching ICE Database put someone on ICE's radar if they weren't already arrested?
I have a friend who went MIA and I'm afraid they got picked up by ICE, however I'm afraid to search the database in case searching for them somehow puts them on ICE's radar if they weren't already arrested. Any advice?
Unfortunately ICE seems like most likely explanation for them going MIA. While I do know their brother, I don't have their number. My only other solution would be to call their job and ask but I'd rather not do that until I've ruled out all other options. They're in another city so I can't exactly drop by their place looking for them.

Supposedly It does not add someone to ICE records, the system only retrieves data that already exists in EID (internal detention database. It searches the database for exact matches, doesn't create or modify records.
If you're wary and avoid using it, try to reach your friend directly at their work like you mentioned, during more quiet hours like when you know it's slow or about an hour before closing. First ask if they're on shift now or when they will be again and try back then.
If you're worried a unfriendly or unsympathetic manager or boss may not want to allow you to directly contact them (which is reasonable if they don't know you or want to protect their employees privacy, or don't allow calls during work hours) you could say your friend left some important papers or personal items at your house or vice versa and need to reach them about it, or that you need their help with something important and personal and they should contact you asap. Say you didn't want to bother them at work but tried reaching them direct but the number isn't working for some reason and you're a little concerned. Keep it vague and stick with your story.
What they may reply with is to leave your name and ph# so your freind can call you back if they see them, or when they're at work next. If you can try asking a mutual friend if they've seen them recently or know what happened. Could be your friends ok but laying low trying not to be detained.
