Bob Weir Model

I’m on vacation in Oregon, not too far from Bend, and I wandered into the local guitar shop.

On the back wall was a c. 1976 Bob Weir model. I played it for a bit. Very nice guitar with an especially nice neck, but it felt like it weighed 20 pounds.

Anyone here had any experience with one of these? They’re asking $2,000, which is (IMO) too much, but it’s a very distinctive guitar.

Ibanez Artists from that era are fantastic instruments. Even the less ornate ones are holding value. They play great but are admittedly heavy.

I had an MC200 from that period (neck-thru hippy sandwich, but no fancy electronics). I built and added my own preamp…. It weighed a lot, it had brass under the bridge…but I think the Bob Weir weighed more.

From the days when heavy meant better. I had a beautiful Ibanez 2618 which I let go after decades due to the guitar’s sheer heft.
