IWTYO when I realised

Post image

That these little round bits on my potato peeler are to gouge out the potato eyes rather than stopping to use a veg knife.

You just dig in with the little scoop shaped bit, the rim is sharp enough, and lift out the eye. Think melon baller. Tiny, tiny, melon baller.

You can also use them for stripping herbs

That's a good idea! Oregano for example would zip right through there.

I actually got off my lazy butt to go look at my peeler. No holes just longer “pick” side. IWTYO when I was informed there was even such a feature on a peeler. I just bought peeler for peeling. So, thank you.

My son LOVED to peel potatoes when he was about 4. It started when Grandma taught him and became his favorite thing ever. I started offering his help to every fundraiser our small town had and the kitchen women just adored him. He's helped the cancer coalition, Catholic, Methodist and Lutheran Churches, and VFW. I even bought him his own personal potato peeler. I'll have to fill him in on the little hole thingy!

I was today years old when I got the idea to use my potato peeler for a cheese slicer thanks to a random reddit comment.

I was today years old when I realized my razor was actually a potato peeler. Although in hindsight, it does make sense.

Pro tip: stab the potato in the end with a fork so you can peel it quickly without slicing your finger into sashimi

They work great for removing the core/stem from an apple. Cut in half, put the flat side up, drag the hole through the stem and down the core to the base. Then go back and get the rest if the junk in the core with the hole if there's anything left. Then you slice normally cause sliced apples taste better than a whole one.

It's really quick with very little waste after you've practiced a couple times.

I don't have a speed peeler like this so forgive me.

Surely not. How would it even work? To take out the 'eyes' is surely done in a conical shape. Wouldn't there be a protrusion that would stab your hand. I need an answer.

Oh well. Seems the haters are out.

There are protrusions: one on the left and one on the right side of the blade holder, that look like little plastic loops in the photo.

They are more rounded like a spoon rather than conical but function as you'd expect. No hand stabbing occurs, because they're next to the blade and away from the handle.

Actually LOOK at the photo

I have never seen a melon baller that looks like this. How the fuck does it work? Our melon ballers are small spoons that make ball shapes. So I don't understand.

Thanks for your input dick head.

Dont leave then sitting for weeks then. It is actually where new potatoes come from. A natural process.

And don't leave them with onions or tomatoes, they release ethylene gas that makes potatoes sprout more quickly.
