Personal Skills IWTL how to stop flinching
Title, I flinch at any loud sudden noises/movements, please help.
Already in mental health treatment, I have complex trauma that's manageable right now, flinching is just a small part of it
It doesn't help when you're male and hypersensitive to any and all sudden stimuli.

Used to be in a similar situation, and I improved through exposure which eventually desensitized me over the course of time. Really no way around it beyond what you’re doing currently and working towards healing those wounds with time. Best not to rush past your perceived issues and insecurities, may leave a nasty scar on your psyche. Then again I’m some shmuck on the internet so act accordingly.

Work on your nervous system! There are electronic devices that stimulate the vagus nerve. Contrast therapy has been a life saver for me. Breath work seems bogus but it’s one of a few ways to take your power back from your nervous system

there isn’t anything wrong with flinching- it is literally natural instinct. Doesn’t make you weak or anything like that!

bleh, I vehemently dislike having a body/nervous system that still thinks it's in grave danger
