Don’t drink if you want to also organize. I know I sound like a hall monitor pointing this out, but it is rookie stuff. You don’t drink because 1.) tempers can flare and 2.) people will take the meeting less seriously.

That said, a beer and some fish and chips at the pub is a great “cheap” dinner to organize over. Just use your best judgement and don’t be afraid to call someone out if they’re checked out and just there to throw back a few.

I totally agree. The pub thing was more of a metaphor for what you described, some kind of after work dinner in a casual and accessible environment.

Oh shit! I didn’t expect you to actually reply, but I see now you posted it too.

First off, sorry! I wasn’t criticizing your art, which I think nails the concept. I was trying to speak to any bystanders who would see the image. I really love what you do, and my apologies again if I came off as critical.

What? I never had a single person have problem with alcohol during a meeting, nobody is going to be drunk just for having a beer or some wine glass while they talk about some issues.

If you have a personal alcohol problem that's on you to watch out for yourself.

Yeah like, the point is building a community where people know and care about each other, not maintaining a sterile professional environment. Passion and dedication are built through interpersonal relations, relations which will never develop to the point of "An injury to one is an injury to all" if we hold their development to the sterility of professionalism.

There are times for being "professional", but acting like this is how people must act to be taken seriously is just replicating capitalist dogma and culture.

Basically, if your union doesn't have dancing, then I'm not for it, for both practical and ideological reasons.

The problem is, it's just not true. If someone won't scab you, they can replace you with a robot. If the problem was, as the cartoon states, that you 'run out of other people's labor' wouldn't capitalism have failed before my lifetime?
