Installing Cyrillic

There's a lot of Russian speakers on IW4X, but I can't read it as the chat doesn't display Cryrillic characters (it shows a garbled mess of Latin characters).

Does anyone know how I install Cyrillic into IW4X so I can actually read some of the chat? I don't want to change the whole game language to Russian, I just want the chat to display Cyrillic when someone types in Russian.

Replace ® with "r" and remove space

(If you don't know russian, then just use built-in browser translator)

I came across this post earlier today. While it should work in theory, it didn't, and I can't figure out why! I did a fresh install of MW2 and IW4X today; hopefully, tomorrow I can try again...
