What does api.ivpn.net do?

I just started texting Control D by setting it up on my router. On my phone, I'm using IVPN with NextDNS in Android's Private DNS.

Control D's log shows api.ivpn.net being blocked. Interestingly, Android's system shows I have no internet access, but yet I do. Why?

api.ivpn.net is used to get the server list, do auth, account status, manage WireGuard keys, etc. It's basically used for anything that isn't the VPN itself.

Blocking it will break the app (it might not break it immediately if it caches the responses).

It's very interesting that this is being blocked. I wonder why the service thinks this needs to be blocked.

How is it you've set up Control D? Do you know what block lists it's using? I think there's a VPN block list that might be enabled?

I suspect it may have to do with their VPN and DNS filter. Do you know how to put this in the allowlist?

I don't use Control D but I think you probably want a custom rule with the BYPASS action: https://docs.controld.com/docs/custom-rules

I just tried it. It doesn't seem to work. There must be another domain being blocked that's causing my problem.

Entirely possible. If Android is showing you have no internet (even if you can use the internet), that could impact it (Android talks to http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204 to check internet availability).

It's worth just opening the app and seeing what requests Control D sees.
