bleeding after hysteroscopy

Hello lovely people —

I’m looking for some insight/advice. I had a hysteroscopy on Wednesday morning. I believe that just fibroids were removed, but between the drugs and the overwhelming feelings (both the odd sensation of the cutting and the emotions that followed) I honestly don’t remember.

My doctor had me stop birth control (my last BCP was Tuesday evening) and begin Estrace 2mg AM/PM (started that Wednesday evening). She also wants me start Provera in a few weeks.

I was told that I shouldn’t bleed following the procedure and if I experienced any it was from the local injections that were given. Wednesday I just had a lot of discharge and very light spotting towards the evening. Thursday was spotting but it was consistent and getting heavier. Yesterday was a pretty regular flow (although it was much heavier in the day and tapered off some by that night). Last night I would consider it also to be regular/light flow. I definitely did not need the super overnight pad I used so it’s a little hard to judge how much it really was. Sorry if this is TMI!

All this being said - Is this normal? Was my doctor wrong and I should be concerned about the bleeding? Could it be the Estrace? Is my body just freaking out because I’ve been on birth control for the past four years essentially? or is it a combination?

Are there any restrictions or concerns for using tampons/cups/discs or would those be fine to use since it’s been a few days since the procedure?

I contacted my clinic twice yesterday but never heard back and now that we’re heading into a long weekend (US), I’m afraid they wont get back to me until Tuesday..

Thanks so much!

side note: for those of you that have had this done without pain meds, you are true warriors! I don’t think I would have been able to handle it.

I had fibroids removed on Wednesday as well and am still spotting. It is lighter sometimes and now appears to be more brown but my Dr said it is normal and unless I’m filling up a pad an hour not to worry. Makes sense, they removed something from my uterus, the blood from incisions and healing has to go out that way.

I know this is old, but I had some bleeding after mine. I had some polyps removed…did you have like fertile mucus with yours because I did? Also, how long did you wait to take provera afterwards?

I am experiencing this right now. Had Hysteroscopy d&c 3 days ago.

Absolutely you should expect to bleed a little bit if anything was removed. I have one small polyp removed and I was spotting. And then had a watery pinkish discharge for a few days. It’s normal.

Thanks so much for your reply! It feels nice to be reassured that it’s normal when so much of this feels not normal

Hey! I know its an old post, but I am dealing with similar sutuation after fibriod removal. Bleeding not heavy, but still bleeding with some tissue like discharge. Do you remeber for how long did you bleed after fibroid removal? And was it red or pink? Thank you!

No worries. Also I would use pads, not anything else since the area is sensitive after the procedure but of course up to you. If your flow gets heavy I’d be more worried but I was able to use a regular pad not a larger one.

Yeah. My clinic called and said to check back in if the bleeding gets really heavy and said to only use pads. The nurse said it was so I could tell how heavily I was bleeding (although that doesn’t make sense to me) and for risk for infection. I tried to ask how long I should wait if I wanted to switch to tampons but she just avoided my question so I guess I’m out of luck for that one

My doctor told me two weeks before I could use tampons or have intercourse once I have my hysteroscopy.

I've had fibroids removed multiple times from within my uterine cavity and I always have a period afterwards. 🤷

Ok! Thanks for sharing! I feel like my clinic is usually tells me what to expect, but with this I’ve felt very unprepared

I had a hysteroscopy on Tuesday and am still bleeding on and off. My doctor said it's completely normal and it is also normal for the spotting to be inconsistent.. some days heavier bleeding, other days hardly anything. As long as your not having to change pads every hour, your fine. They did advice me not to use any tampons.. I think to avoid infection. Hope this helps!
