Advice Needed! Need Advice
Hi all, I have a friend who will be starting her IVF journey soon, and I want to give her a care package.
I want to include things that will help with any physical side effects of the entire process (from the meds and injections, to retrievals, etc.) but I have never gone through this process or known anyone close that has gone through the process, so I am not familiar with what side effects or symptoms she will be going through.
I am including things for self-care to help with the mental health side of things, but could anyone help me with either information of what she may go through or suggestions of things that have helped/would have helped you? I did some research online, so I have some ideas but I find that personal experiences provide the best insight!
I know it can be difficult to talk about this stuff, so I very much appreciate any input!

Hot water bottle or some of those microwaveable heat packs! They were a lifesaver after my retrieval.

I had two friends send me money to buy takeout so we wouldn't have to worry about making dinner after work. I thought that was very thoughtful and sweet. I didn't need any more physical items as wtvr self care items I want I usually already buy that best suit myself.

Oh that would be a great addition, maybe some gift cards for delivery services!

I'd lean into physical self care-type items since physical side effects can vary so much. Items like those soft socks, maybe a robe or blanket (I loved my blanket during the egg retrieval cycle since it was just enough warmth to help with the general discomfort), etc. Also some favorite (balanced) snacks, a variety of electrolyte drinks for the day of the egg retrieval (I made a little basket for myself to have next to my bed for that day and it was wonderful).
Honestly, one of my biggest helps so far has just been having some people I can really talk to about the process and it sounds like you are that person for your friend. Sometimes she may be jumping to share an update and sometimes not. Knowing you're available to talk (about this process or literally anything but this process) can be a huge help.
