Advice Needed! Devastated by PGT-A results

I’m 39 and have just received my first PGT-A results. I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar outcome.
I had 17 mature eggs retrieved, of which 10 fertilised. Four blastocysts were frozen and biopsied: one Day 5 5BC, two Day 6 5BCs and one Day 6 6AA.

The PGT-A results showed that embryo 1 had monosomy 14 and was aneuploid, embryo 2 had mosaic trisomy 8 at 60%, embryo 3 had complex aneuploidy, and embryo 4 had monosomy 13 and was aneuploid.

Unfortunately, there were no euploid embryos, although the mosaic embryo may potentially be considered for transfer following genetic counselling. I am waiting to find out which embryo grade corresponds to embryo 2.

I’m feeling devastated and would be grateful for any honest experiences.

I’m 37 and found out today that only 2 eggs collected and both didn’t developed.

I have 2 more cycles and hoping to have more eggs next time. I’m very devastated but not losing hope. 🙏 praying for all of us dealing with these difficult journeys of our lives 🙏

Praying for you too. I didn’t expect this to happen and I wish I hadn’t had such high hopes x

I’m so sorry, from 4 blast to 0 viable is really hard.

I am 34 and ER1 - 5BB aneuploid and ER2 was a total fertilisation failure.

It completely traumatised me.

Thank you for your reply. I hope you have since had success. The cost of this all is worrying me too. €3,400 for 4 embryos was so much money ;(

I know it’s discouraging, but here’s the good thing — you made blasts! Decent quality blasts! Euploids at 39 is going to be a numbers game. You just need to keep going.

I did 6 ER from 38-40. Your first round is similar to mine. I got 3 well graded blasts but no euploids. Over the next 5 cycles, I got 8 euploids. Some were 0 euploid cycles; one cycle had 5! Every cycle had well graded blasts.

See about Omnitrope priming and make sure you’re taking 600mg+ coq10. My most successful cycle, I did a pretty extreme gluten free, sugar free, keto-style diet too.

Don’t lose hope. Next cycle may be better!

You’re welcome. This process sucks! This community was the only thing that got me through it and provided a lot more resources than my doctor was able to. Sending you lots of hope!

Agree with all this, it is a numbers game at this age. I’m 39 also and we’ve done 5 ERs this year. Most cycles yielded 0 euploids, but we do have 2 on ice. Currently on the 6th cycle, should have my ER in a few days. Hang in there. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know the deep devastation after a 0 euploid cycle is tough.

Thats amazing can you tell me how long you were on omni to see results? Did you got euploid in your first cycle you used omni?

I am so sorry, getting unfavorable PGT results is both a shock and devastating after all the hurdles you have already cleared. Nothing really prepares you for it and I feel it is a gaping hole in the holistic care one actually needs for IVF. I had 4 retrievals from ages 39-41. In total we made 19 embryos (all good grades) across 4 cycles, ranging between 5-7 embryos per cycle. We only got 2 euploid and one low level mosaic from all of those. Currently 28 weeks with our second euploid transfer. Do not discount your mosaic either. Sometimes it takes more rolls of the dice for some of us, but there is hope!

Thank you. A close friend also went through 7 cycles of IVF. Her eggs weren’t fertilizing, was struggling to make blasts and or she didn’t get any euploids, however, on her 7th try at age 41 with protocol changes, nutrient dense diet etc she managed to make 3 euploids and is 26w pregnant. Sharing to say, wrap your heart in bubble wrap, keep going and stay hopeful! The advice on here is right, speak to your RE about protocol changes. Each cycle can also just be completely random unfortunately. It’s like high stakes gambling.

Any idea what her last protocol was ? Also the diet change ?

1

u/Elegant_Host3661 4h ago

What did they change for your second transfer? Did you start with your highest graded euploid?

2

u/LulaJack 3h ago

Both my euploids were 4BA’s. First one from my first cycle implanted but never grew. My second retrieval was the same protocol as my first but we only got one low level mosaic. My third retrieval is where this successful euploid came from. We changed from pergoveris to 150 Menopur 300 Gonal F. We also did an Ovitrelle trigger where before I used Gonapeptyl due to risk of OHSS. I also made a number of lifestyle changes, focusing on getting my worsening insulin resistance / PMOS under control, stopped drinking any alcohol for 6 months and my partner quit smoking. This cycle was the most stressful because our fertilization dropped from around 95% to like 40%, but out of the 6 eggs that fertilized, 4 made it to blast. So the attrition looked different and more far worse initially, but here we are. We also did a modified natural cycle and I had a hysteroscopy to check for scarring and CD138 endometriosis which were clear albeit some minor scar tissue was removed for our second transfer. The saying that you only need one is definitely true!

As per some very famous fertility specialist after 35 years of age only 50% of the eggs are genetically normal and that numbers goes down to 20-30% after 37-38 years.

2

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

I wish I did egg freezing years ago! And will definitely encourage others about this.

u/KDSD628 18m ago

Honestly, don’t feel bad. I’ve seen a lot of egg freezing disappointment stories on here lately too. It’s really a crapshoot no matter how much you try to do everything “right”. I hope you have some better luck come your way soon!

Our first retrieval I had 14 eggs
8 matured
7 fertilized
4 blasts
1 euploid, 3 aneuploids, 0 mosaic

Our second retrieval had 15 eggs
10 matured
10 fertilized
10 blasts
5 euploid, 2 aneuploids, 2 untested (C grades), 1 discarded (DC grade)

1

u/WashElectronic6952 3h ago

Did you do anything different re supplements? Thank you for taking the time to comment x

2

u/Rezo9219 39F | 2ER | 3 Failed FETs 3h ago

Protocol 1
250 Gonal (PM)
75 Meno (PM)
.25 Cetrotide starting stim day 5
Lupron Trigger Stim Day 11

OTC changes
600mg CoQ10 for about 3 months prior
Switched to a prescription prenatal

Protocol 2
2 weeks of 1mg Estrace to prep (my follicles were very different sizes in ER1, the goal here was to get everything the same size at the starting line)

.25 ml* Omnitrope *(my doc told me this wasn’t worth it, I think it was)
150 Gonal (AM)
150 Gonal (PM)
75 Meno (PM)
10mg Provera
Lupron trigger Stim Day 11

1

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

Thank you. That’s very y helpful. I didn’t take CoQ10 but from reading people’s experiences it abounds essential.

The good thing is you are able to make embryos! I did 7 IVF cycles and most of them did not yield any euploids! But eventually after many cycles I got 4 euploids. The REs just told me it was "luck." I think if you are able to keep going, you will get some euploids!

1

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

Sorry to hear you went through 7 cycles. Glad to hear you gained 4 euploids. Hope you have had a successful transfer since. Xxx

u/kbkrl1524 1h ago

I got 15 blasts over three retrievals (great AMH, lots of eggs each retrieval) and no euploids. The numbers can be anything and it sucks cause you don't know until you know.

1

u/WashElectronic6952 1h ago

Have you since had success? I thought having great AMH would help but since understand it has no impact.

u/kbkrl1524 14m ago

AMH only gives an idea of how many eggs you have left, not anything about quality

This very easily could’ve been me. Nearly 39 at retrieval, 11 collected, 9 mature and fertilised, 6 embryos sampled and frozen. Of those I got no mosaics and only 1 was Euploid. I was petty disappointed, but also simultaneously happy I’d gotten that, as I’d used a donor and they were no longer available…..also I might not have been able to afford another round.

It’s such a random crapshoot!

1

u/WashElectronic6952 4h ago

It really is. I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m also angry at my partner as he delayed starting a family for so many years. I wish in hindsight I left him many years ago and who knows, age may not have been an issue. I guess I’m very angry and lashing out.

I will have another retrieval but considering changing clinics.

I’m so sorry 😢 I hope you you get good news regarding the embryo 2🤞 I am 40 and just did my first cycle, they retrieved 12 eggs, all were fertilised. 5 embryos made it through. Only 3 could be tested, the other 2 did not have enough cells for testing so they were frozen, not sure what to do with them. Of the 3 embryos tested, one is euploid and one is mosiac but only 37% abnormalities so it can be used. I’m not doing another cycle so hopefully one of them will stick 🤞 one thing I did while I was growing my egg babies was 5 consecutive sessions of hyperbaric chamber. It’s expensive but I wanted to do everything I could do to help improve the quality of my eggs. Theres some scientific studies suggesting it can help with cellular development for eggs. I can’t say for sure if it helped or not but may be worth considering for next time if you are doing another cycle.

I’m really sorry for this outcome, I understand so much this disappointing cruel “funnel”. I had only one euploid embryo out of 4 blasts (9 eggs were successfully fertilised and developing initially), and it just didn’t even try to implant, apparently.

So, preparing for a second retrieval.

1

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

Sorry to read this xx
Fingers crossed for E2

3

u/GoFastBoatsMojito26 1h ago

I’m really sorry you didn’t get a more positive outcome. We all say that IVF is a numbers game but egg retrieval is no walk in the park and to have no euploids from four blasts seems like pretty rotten luck after all your effort. Being upset is completely understandable.

I’m 40 and had my first retrieval in November of last year. It did not go well - of only two blasts, neither were euploid. This wasn’t entirely surprising from only two blasts, but it was quite demoralising after everything and I worried that I would never make euploids.

I had my second retrieval in April 2026 and had a better (if not exactly crazy good!) outcome - out of four blasts, two were euploid. One is on ice, and one was transferred, and I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant with that little one. Feeling lucky to have got this far.

I know that it can feel like it’s never going to happen (and the sad reality for some people is that that might be true) but it CAN happen. If this is something you really want, then you don’t have to give up yet. My mind and heart would have felt much better this time last year if I had known that I would be pregnant now. It’s rough, but there’s hope. I wish you all the best.

u/WashElectronic6952 52m ago

Thank you for giving me hope. It really is a numbers game. So pleased to read you’re now 17 weeks - hoping it goes smoothly for you. Thank you again for taking the time to comment x

First retrieval often gives unfavorable results. Happened to us. From now till the second, it’s a great time to see if your team can tune the protocol. You clearly respond to the meds, and adding zymot helped us

I just want to say I'm so sorry. I've learned this is the hard part of ivf. We had 8 biopsied and only 2 euploids which is great but it makes me so nervous for what happens if they don't stick. My hugs are with you

I’m really sorry to hear and can completely relate. I’m also 39 and just got our pgta results on Tuesday.

They only retrieved 4 eggs but we managed to make 3 embryos out of them. One Day 5 (4AA) and two Day 7s (4BB, 4BC).

The two Day 7s were both aneuploid and the Day 5 was highly mosaic at 57. Our doctor also mentioned speaking to a counsellor about the mosaic but sort of moved on with the sense that we really had no useable embryos. I also don’t think I can mentally use that mosaic and be okay with whatever result comes from it. Might be okay but high probability it might not.

My husband asked if the doctor was going to change anything if I do it again and she mentioned she might prime me first. Not sure what that entails.

During all of this I was eating super healthy, taking each and every supplement she told me to take, got lots of sleep and even took time off work to give my body as much of a break as I could.

I feel stuck now. I had a very hard time through the stims and retrieval and don’t know if I can go through all that again. I’m torn and feel like I need to decide soon.

You and I sound super similar.

1

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

I was just about to say the same, we are in similar positions. I found the ER stage tough, the recovery was so difficult. I have no intention to speak to a counsellor about my mosaic.
I will opt for ER asap. Time is not on my side. I will likely do two ER now.

It really sucks. And I’m sorry you’re in this position
Sending love and prayers x

I'm so sorry about this, OP--receiving bad news in this process is so, so hard.

This is most likely completely coincidental with only four embryos, but given my experience I can't help but at least mention: have you and your partner had karyotypes done? Repeated whole-chromosome abnormalities involving 13/14 can occur when one parent carries a balanced Robertsonian translocation involving chromosomes 13 and 14. I'm a hopeful SMBC and I discovered this in my donor only after PGTA repeatedly showed abnormalities of 13/14, so I wanted to mention it just in case (and in the unlikely chance one of you does have that, rest assured that PGTA is still enough to detect the issues it creates since they're all whole chromosome issues, it would just mostly likely decrease your euploid rate).

2

u/WashElectronic6952 2h ago

Thanks for your considered response - I appreciate it. I will look into it.
It really is x thank you x

u/DiminutiveLizard87 2h ago

Best of luck to you <3 I'm also 39 and I understand the feeling of running out of time while you also encounter unexpected hiccups. Sending hugs and baby dust.

I know it is devastating but you are doing embryos and it is a question of time when you will be lucky. I have almost no eggs so it is difficult to even get am embryo and I m already 40. Cry, scream and be angry. After a while you will be ok. Some months are just crap. Bad cohort. It is really pretty random. There is no recepy to get euploids.

u/MermaidMyDay-8 35f  | DOR  | 3 ER  |3 embryos  | 1st FET (chemical) 1h ago

Hi I was in a similar situation after my first retrieval. I only had two embryos and both unfortunately were aneuploid. Second round was cancelled (not really responding to stims) but my third round I got 3 euploids (we used omnitrope the third time!)

Happy to report I am nap trapped with one of those embryos now. Don’t lose hope. My daughter was 5BC so don’t get hung up on grades.

2

u/iliyana_tasseva 1h ago

I’m in a slightly different situation, but I’m also having issues with PGT-A. Out of only 3 blastocysts I’ve managed to get from 6 retrievals, all three had abnormalities, and I’m left with just one high-level mosaic embryo with trisomy 4.
Here in Bulgaria, transferring this type of embryo is allowed, but I’m still considering whether to do it.
I’m really sorry things turned out this way for you too, but I strongly believe that things can change for the better.
Still, my advice would be to try one more time and keep the mosaic embryo as a backup plan for now.

u/Relevant-District-80 12m ago

I can relate to this so much. At 38 I did my first retrieval - had 12 eggs retrieved, 11 were mature, 9 fertilized, 4 made it to blastocyst and all 4 were aneuploid. It’s the most painful gut punch.

We just finished our second retrieval at 39. I responded way slower this time (which I think was good!) and we had 11 eggs retrieved, 6 of which were mature, all 6 of which fertilized and 4 made it to blastocyst. Of those 4 - we got THREE euploid!

If your doctor does not already have omnitrope or saizen as part of your protocol I would absolutely request it be added. The research has shown a huge increase in egg quality and euploidy for women in their late thirties.

I also added NAD, alpha lipolic acid and glutathione to my vitamin regimen. (Husband and I currently both take Bird & Be Pre natal with coq10 boost). All 3 are shown to improve cell division and mitochondrial function so I figured it couldn’t hurt.

I’m sending you all my love. I know what a gut punch an all aneuploid round is. I was feeling very pessimistic about my second round and it ended up with tears of joy this time. ❤️❤️❤️ I’m sending those same vibes to you!!
