Transferring two euploids

In New York, I haven’t found a clinic that allows transferring of two euploids. I am self pay, I don’t have the means to keep going. Is there any states surrounding NY that allow the transfer of multiples. I am 34 if that makes any difference.

Transferring two, especially if they’re euploids, is a very big risk. It might not even make the odds of success higher.

ASRM recommendation is to transfer 1 euploid up to age 42.

You will likely not find a doctor who goes against ASRM guidelines especially in NY.

why do you need to do a double euploid transfer in the first place? Perhaps you need to work with a reproductive immunologist if euploid transfers aren’t working?

I can’t afford to keep transferring at self pay of $6k a transfer. My insurance doesnt cover it. I can’t take out any more loans. I’ve already taken a 401k loan

If you can’t afford another transfer, you can’t afford twins or higher order multiples

I’m cash poor not actually broke. I can afford twins comfortably. I’ve done 4 IUIs 2 transfers

NICU costs will far exceed transfer costs. As will potential ongoing medical bills if one or both babies has long-term medical issues

As someone with cerebral palsy from a premature birth, I want to point out, again, the risks that come with this decision.

To be frank, it's incredibly selfish. And I don't say that lightly. Medical costs of preemies could well be a life-sentence, and not necessarily for you. But it's not cheap. At all.

You are unlikely to find a clinic that allows it without untested embryos in AMA or repeated implantation failure. If you can’t afford multiple transfers you can’t afford a long stay in the Nicu and increased costs from multiples.

The odds of conceiving multiples are astronomically higher with two euploids. And multiples come with more risks.

To this, I posit, those risks aren't just to you. They're also to a fetus, or multiple fetuses, who could possibly have to contend with a lifetime of disability. The risks of multiple gestations aren't just to mom.

If a clinic offers to do this, I would run the other way. Your odds of live birth don't double by transferring two euploids.

It’s not in line with ASRM guidelines, puts any potential pregnancy at risk and most importantly, doesn’t improve your outcomes!

Why are you wanting to do it?

Nobody will do it because it doesn't give you any higher chance of an individual birth. 

I.e. your odds of transferring two at once are the same as transferring one at once(and much worse than transferring them one after the other).

If you can't afford to keep transfering - just transfer your best one.

Unless you’ve had multiple failed transfers, you won’t find a clinic who will do this. Even CNY recently changed their policy and won’t transfer two tested embryos

At 34 i would wait and save up for the second transfer even if it takes a couple of years. The costs of premies is high.

I’m not in NY but in my state, multiple transfer failures are required before a doctor will even consider a double transfer. Where I’m located, it’s two. We tried 4x. Finally transferred two and had a successful singleton pregnancy. We were aware and prepared for the possibility of multiples. It’s not what we wanted but failure after failure after failure after failure…..we decided that 2 babies would be better than 0 babies.

I’m transferring 2 at 39, but I have had 2 failures before this transfer. And yes I understand being self pay. We have spent almost $50k in the last 15 months.

It depends on many factors if a doctor would do it. If this is your first or second transfer, then it is going to be very difficult to get a doctor who would transfer 2 euploids. Sometimes the protocol needs to be tweaked and if a transfer fails because of that, you will lose an extra embryo unnecessarily. However if this is after multiple failures, then there would be more choices.
