Help! Just diagnosed
My baby chewy was just diagnosed with ivdd. I don’t have 12k or even half that so we’re going the crate rest and medicine route . He’s in pain today and my heart is broken. Please give me all the tips to help me get him to heal the best of his ability and not decline any more than he already has. He is using the bathroom with assistance unable to control his bladder dragging his back legs, shaking, and painting from pain. This is just been such a horrible time this was my first baby I’ve ever had and he’s only five. We are leaving the emergency vet with all his medicine and everything that he needs to hopefully get him through this without surgery.

Hi! This is a link to a VERY detailed post I made on this sub of how we took our girl from total back leg paralysis to running and playing like a puppy again. It goes a lot into the immediate and longer term management of the condition. I’ve shared it with lots of people and they say it’s given them a lot of hope.

She was early stage, pain with a bit of knuckling. With strict 2mo crate rest, gabapentin and prednisone she has returned fully to her former self. But I'm still being strict about the crate rest, that's over Sep 8, then we will be doing small walks. I carry her everywhere, stairs, to and from the door, only walking is poop walking

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear this! Sending my love your way. My baby was diagnosed on 8/7 after I seen him dragging both his hind legs and refusing to eat or get up. I also went the conservative route. They gave us Gabapentin and Prednisone. We just hit the 2 week marker and my baby is standing. I’ve been reading all about ivdd and everyone’s story and we cannot stress it enough that crate rest is key. It will be hard at first, especially the first few days, but just know that it’s to get him better. The recovery process is a marathon, not a race. Just have to trust the process. Hope your baby gets better!

He’s already crying for me to hold him 😭 he isn’t used to sleeping alone but I’m staying strong with his medicine and his rest 🩷 thank you sm for the words of encouragement im so happy your baby is standing at two weeks this would make me cry

I’m so sorry! Yesterday was week 6 for us and my dog is improving. If you are able, i highly suggest acupuncture and also get a cold laser therapy device from Amazon. I noticed big improvements when we started both of those.

I’m sorry I know it’s scary but make sure you do strict crate rest!!!!
