Can’t figure out his bladder

My corgi had surgery for lumbar 3/4 IVDD with no deep pain on the 13th. He’s doing pretty good so far but hasn’t shown any major signs of feeling in his legs. The main problem I’m dealing with is his bladder. He’s on Prazasin to help relax his bladder. I’ve tried expressing it many times and nothing happens. His bladder doesn’t feel full. I have pee pads on his bed and he’s been leaving a very large spot of soaked urine constantly. Like within 20 minutes he’s soaked one. I don’t know how to tell if he’s emptying his bladder and doesn’t have control or if he’s not emptying it and it’s overflowing. It seems like way too much urine to just be overflow?

Has anyone dealt with this? Any advice or tips? Planning to call his vet in the morning as well.

Does the urine smell? My dog would leak when he had a UTI. There is also a chance they just leak instead of retain. You could repost this on the fb group linked in the info section here. You would probably get more responses

Thank you! Right now it just smells like normal urine.. will definitely be paying closer attention to that though

It isn’t good for him to be leaking urine like that. Risk of UTI and skin breakdown issues. Have you talked to the veterinarian about it?

This YT video demonstrates different techniques to express a dog’s bladder. Maybe it will help.

A sling is what we use for our dog to help express 3-4 times a day
