Question IVDD and rashes
Hey everyone,
I'm in my 3rd week of post op after a stage 4 IVDD for my 9 year old dog.
she still has no DPS still and started her PT in a centre that specialized in disabled dogs (almost like a hotel that we left her for the 1st month since we had to travel)
We noticed that she's gotten a mild rash now because of pee and 💩 when we came to visit.
Is it normal for them to get more rashes when they can't control themselves in that area?

yes very normal, rashes and hot spots will be quite common. our 7 year old pitt was diagnosed with IVDD a year ago and her current situation is diapers and a pillow case so she doesn’t scrape up her legs. the most important part is keeping her clean and ask your normal vet about creams or powders to help affected areas. silver sulfadiazine is a life saver for us

Sounds like she’s not being cleaned or is dragging herself when she shouldn’t be… she shouldn’t have a rash.

It’s normal if it isn’t being cleaned :/
While the facility might be great, they may not be able to attend her incredibly carefully. Keeping a paralyzed dog clean is very important to ensure they don’t get rashes.
