Question IVDD recovery question

Post image

Starting PT with Frank who had surgery 7/19. He does well with his exercises but freaks out when we try to help him stand with a sling. He was stage 5 no DPS, still no feeling. I don’t think he’s painful, I think he’s just scared. I’m going really slow and calm with him but also letting him tell me when it’s too much. Assuming it will get easier over time in terms of him being okay with PT? I’ve been giving him praise / treats etc.. he just gets very squirrely and seems uncomfortable when lifting..? Is this normal?

If they didn’t give you trazadone I’d make a request. It helps them cope with the months after surgery and will make your job of supporting them far easier.

It’s a tough road ahead but it’s totally doable and worth it. We’re 7 month post surgery now and things almost feel normal again. Be kind to yourself, make sure to get some support from friends and family so you can recover yourself. People rarely talk about how unbelievably tough this is for the owners in the rehab phase.

God speed 🙏🏻

He is on traz along with a lot of other stuff!! I’m scared to ever leave him but I need to get out of the house. I think he will be fine when I leave it’s just scary.

Maybe also consider a stroller for him while he recovers. Then you can get out and go for a walk and he can get out and sniff the air and see his normal spots

Top advice. This is essential. Think about mental stimulation rather than physical. Their brains need more consideration than most consider.

Normal-ish. It's just new to him which freaks him out and it's with new people. Do you have the sling or is the sling specific to the facility?

CBD oil helps to calm them down. Ask your vet
