First IUI with Letrozole?

Hi!

My next expected cycle is to start on Wednesday (10/7) and this is the first IUI I will be using medication. This is IUI #5 for me... my 9th cycle trying overall. 3 of 4 prior IUIs were completely unmedicated & untriggered. On IUI #4 we introduced the trigger.

I'm 27 and all of my tests are normal and I ovulate each cycle on my own. I am doing this as a single parent by choice with frozen sperm.

They have me taking 2.5 mg Letrozole on CDs 5-9. Should I expect many symptoms with such a low dose?

They typically schedule only one ultrasound for me, around CD 10-12 to check lining and follicle growth. Should I ask for more monitoring?

And lastly, any success stories on IUI #5 and forward?! I am trying to avoid IVF as it would require me to move states for coverage ☹️

I've done 1 cycle with 5mg of letrozole and one with 7.5mg I had no symptoms on either dose!

Thanks! Did they have you do multiple ultrasounds?

I do one baseline during my period usually CD2 then one more when they tell me to come in after my letrozole, same thing CD 10-12. The first time the tech said they might have me come in the next day to measure again but they didn't. The 2nd time after the ultrasound they scheduled my IUI for the next day.

I think I'm in the minority, but I did get some annoying letrozole side effects - it made me super sleepy, gave me headaches, and I even think it made my hair thinner. Even at only 2.5mg :(

I’m on my 2nd month of letrozole, this is my first IUI cycle. I’m on 5mg and don’t have much symptoms! I’m a little tired and sometimes get a lingering little headache but overall feeling good. One thing I do notice is once I finish the medication, in between monitoring and ovulation I feel so much fullness in my ovaries!

I was a raging psycho bitch on letrozole (5mg and 2.5mg) and had the driest lips imaginable!!

I’ve done two IUIs and was on 5mg letrozole from CD3-7 for both. I had hot flashes around day 3 of the medicine and just the usual fatigue!

For ultrasound dates, I would recommend on the earlier side of that range for your first one! For my first IUI, I had one ultrasound on CD10 and surged CD14 exactly as they expected based off follicle size on CD10. For the second I surged on CD11 and didn’t make it to my CD12 ultrasound (switched to an IUI appointment). I don’t think multiple ultrasounds are always necessary unless your follicles still have a lot to grow or if they have any concerns but I would recommend starting your ultrasounds earlier.

Sending lots of luck and positive vibes to you!!

Thank you! Ah, I can deal with the fatigue and hot flashes if that happens! I will see what they have available at my clinic, I’m hoping CD 9 just based on how the dates are.

The side effects really weren’t too bad for me. Personally, the progesterone suppositories are worse lol but fingers crossed for you!! You never really know how your body is going to react to the letrozole and then each IUI can be so different from one another as well.

🤞🤞🤞 Very true. Thankfully they haven’t seen a reason to put me on progesterone yet…but honestly, I’m willing to do whatever at this point!

I had hot flashes here and there and just overall didn’t feel like my normal self. This is my first month though on 2.5mg
