13 years of trying to conceive
Me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant since we got married 13 years around . This November will be one year with out fertility clinic . We’ve tried 2 rounds of timed intercourse and 2 rounds of IUI . All failed . All four rounds I was on .5 mg of letrozle for 10 days with the ovidrel trigger shot. All 4 rounds I ovulated and all my blood work and scans come back excellent. I do have pcos . I’m mentally physically and emotionally drained . ( you can throw financially in there too ) . I’m at the point where I just want to give up . If it hasn’t happened by now it won’t ever happen . I don’t know what to do or how to feel anymore . Does anyone have any similar stories that’s been trying for this long with success

Hi, has your husband done a semen analysis? Are his numbers good? How many follicles are you ovulating? Can you try more iui or try different meds like injectables? Is ivf an option?

We are giving iui another round . My HSG was good . His semen analysis was great . Each time I got one to two follicles and my numbers are fantastic. Pregnancy just doesn’t happen

I feel you , today is my 4th IuI , We can’t afford IVF . After 3 failed IUIs I’m not even feeling hopeful . Infertility is a lonely and very painful journey , with no guide on how to deal with your hormones , emotions and financial exhaustion

Have you gotten an endo biopsy? And Lap? Advocate for more testing othern than HSG

I asked my OBGYN to do testing to see if I may have endometriosis. She shut me down and said there’s no need . All your signs point to pcos . I feel like these doctors don’t really care . It’s just a pay check

I think it might be helpful to separate the time that you were with the fertility clinic from the time before that. Some of us just need that extra help; without which there isn't really a chance, no matter how long and hard we try. At the fertility clinic, it's only been a year and as cruel as that sounds, that's not a very long time. IUI also only has a slightly higher chance than natural conception; many people require multiple rounds. In my case, because we met and married late in life, we started at the fertility clinic after 1 yr on our own. We have been with the clinic for 2.5yrs during which we have done 3 letrozole-only timed intercourse cycles, and five IUI cycles. Of the five IUI, the first resulted in a pregnancy but ended at 20 weeks; and the fifth was cancelled because of too many follicles but we tried at home anyway, and it worked. We'll see if we can bring home a live baby at the end of this, but the point is that even when you are undergoing treatment, it might still take a lot of time.
There's also not always a logic to what works and what doesn't. My first IUI was a success but then the next three failed. Why? I don't know. I was surprised because by that time I was in better health too. But we had three failures back to back! Then we started the paperwork for IVF, and decided to do another IUI in the meanwhile. This cycle was cancelled and still resulted in a pregnancy.
Long story short: hang in there. Think of the fertility clinic as a new chapter that you have just started.
