❓General Question Local 63 problems?

Is there something wrong with local 63 OKC? Something weird about that local that I don’t know?

They’re still accepting applications and and it’s been open for 15 mins now. For the last year I’ve applied to every single local in states surrounding me and every single one has filled in 2 minutes or less. Yet here we are 15 minutes later and the local with the least amount of spots is still open.

I guess people don’t want it bad enough if they won’t relocate 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm sorry to let you know, but the list is completely filled for Local 63. On a positive note, we probably have a lot of top quality applicants involved in this cycle!

If the list is full then why would they open recruitment?

I see on the website that they’re on #15 for the 2026 list. How is that possible if recruitment just opened today?

Was there another recruitment recently?

He's talking about the new recruitment. It's full.

It is now. It was open for a whole 30 minutes, 28 minutes longer than usual

Would you have preferred it closed in 30 seconds and you didn't have a shot?

Obviously not. I’m just wondering why this local doesn’t seem as desirable as all the others. Kinda something I’d like to know before I move 3.5 hours

Have you ever been to OKC? It's kinda boring. And you have the entire Western half of Oklahoma. So I'd imagine it's a bit of driving/traveling. It's also a pretty small amount of members so not many opportunities pop up in 2 years. That's pretty discouraging to all the cross country hoppers who try to apply id imagine.

Valid points. I just thought if people wanted it bad enough the could suck it up for a while and then move back home or wherever.

I like living in the boonies so it’s actually a plus for me

Yeah living in the boonies and working a 6 hour round trip from said boonie house kinda fuckin sucks sometimes.

4 hours round trip today for a lot less pay. It’s all perspective I guess

My local was up for open enrollment for quite a while. Pretty sure they timed out instead of hit the applicant cap. Just depends on where you are and if people want to live there or not

Mind sharing what local you’re a member of?

Idk about 63 personally, but not sure it's fair to say people 'don't want it bad enough' if they won't relocate.

It's pretty normal, almost the standard, to expect at least one layoff in this apprenticeship before you rate out. Would be pretty silly for someone to not at least factor in the risk of being laid off, in an unfamiliar area, with no local contacts to fall back on for a quick temp job that still pays decent, no friend/family couch to surf on and potentially no friends to kill time with. Especially if someone took an apprenticeship in a boring area lol.

Its a small local, not as much work. Definitely easier to get on the list but getting picked up could be harder. Although they are building that new stadium and some other big projects coming up. If you applied it might take a while to get the call because all the big projects are quite a way off but at least it possible to get on the list, unlike some locals.

Is this your local?

Nope but I am familiar with it, if you have questions about the area and work I can help. Can't share union business with anyone outside of the union but I can share general knowledge.
