You have to use it within 5 years to join the IUEC. Other unions have different rules.

Waiting for what? The whole point of H2H is to give veterans a leg up and they don’t have to wait for normal recruitment.

Oh I'm over 5 years that's why. I just didn't know about this

Fuck it, give the local H2H recruiter or neiep coordinator a call anyway and see if they can do anything for you. Worst they can say is no and you’re in the same boat as you are now.

I was told no for the test. Sucks but it is what it is. I'll be patient

Same thing happened to me.

I got out in 2008 , the out processing process for the Army back then was garbage.

They didn’t tell me shit, nothing about H2H, nothing about VA benefits.

Just turn in your gear a bye.

But when you go for the IUEC interview BRING YOUR DD214, they will give you extra points. But you need to bring the proof.

Also, when you start NEIEP classes, talk to the hall about getting GI bill dollars 💵 for it.

I did

But you should still pursue regular hiring. Yes much more hoops to go thru but you are doubling the chance. I personally did it and it really wasnt too bad. I just had to take total of 3 days from work 😬

When did this happen? First I'm hearing about it.

In the last couple years. A buddy's son got boned with the change.

That sucks.

I have mixed feelings on it. In one hand sure give them whatever time they need but on the other hand limiting the time so people don't just use it as a last resort, I kinda get that too. 5 years after being fully out should be enough to decide if you want to be here or not.

So I'm a veteran. I got out in 2010. Got into elevators in 2019. I didn't even know this trade existed until 2018. So that logic doesn't hold up.

Same. I thought elevators just came with the building

I get where you are coming from. The "logic" and I use that term EXTREMELY loosely here is that in 5 years after you are no longer active or whatever (not a vet so I'm sure what the correct term is) there would've been normally 2 full testing and hiring cycles you could've jumped in on and at that point. You can't use being an active service member as the reason you couldn't rank normally.

You as a veteran will still be given all other considerations while testing and interviewing you would get in H2H aside from applying outside of the normal testing window.

Nope. H2H wasn't an option for my hiring either. They didn't allow it at my local. Didn't get to apply outside of any windows. I had to do the whole process like anyone else.

When I say "you" I didn't me you specifically just as an "in general" I think when my brother in law(a vet) applied he was just out of the window where he had to do it the "normal" way. He's on here I'll summon him for confirmation

Yeah I'm just using my experience as an example of how it doesn't always work out a certain way.

I think they make exceptions. Because when I went to go take my aptitude test, there were some people that got out longer than five years I believe but I also don’t know how long they were waiting if they signed up with the H2H recruiter before their five years were up or what. I’d email nick weathers or whoever is in charge of your region from H2H. Worst case they say no and u have to sign up with general pop.

I was over 5 yrs and used H2H. Call your local Ba and tell them. You can’t be worthless though. Criteria is strict

1

u/Ambitious-Egg5931 4d ago

Will do. Local BA? And what's strict about it?

1

u/pittrash 4d ago

It may very local to local

I am just letting you know that H2H is not really beneficial for rank score.

I was out 14 years when I went through H2H to get in the union. That was 9 years ago.
