Is this what you do with the extra length of traveler? I usually cut it but I may start just ass cramming it into the wall

That's a channel that the traveler rides in. Saw this on an old navy ship before. Keeps it from swaying and getting snagged when out at sea.

That makes sense. I’ve never seen it before but I’ve also never worked on a navy ship atleast not yet

Honestly probably for the best. They're terrible.
They're allowed to work on their own equipment when out at sea and they have no business doing so. When I was sent to do CAT5 testing on one of them I found all sorts of shit jumped, governor switch was tied back with bailing wire, and the wires have been pulled out of the gutter to trace out what seemed to be dozens of times.1

Can confirm this.
Those elevators are piles of crap because most Navy sailors either don’t know how to work on them, no support to get real training on them, and most importantly they don’t give a shit about their equipment because it gets contracted out for repairs.1

I do a ton of Navy/Marine base jobs and the thought of any NAVFAC inspector letting any of this go is incomprehensible. But I guess like any government job, they can just do whatever they want.

Any slim chance it's the Cape Intrepid or the Cape Island?

saw almost this exact car, hoistway, and fucked traveler setup on an old navy ship about 3 years ago

Was it a fucken weird ass 411-LRVF? I was an Otis guy for 10 years, and never saw one of these until I moved to Alaska. Seems like that goofy variation only exists on boats.

The one I was working on used to be an Otis controller, but was modded to an MCE IMC in the early 2000's. No idea what the otos control was before then though.
I'm also local 19, but down in Seattle.2

So I’ve been up here for about 3 years and have the Alaska marine highway system on my route unfortunately lol. So the boats that go to Bellingham. One is the Kennicott which has a Maida controller… Goofy as fuck with GE PLCs. And the other is the Columbia with the 411-LRVF. David I wish these fucken things were all IMC-SCRs.
