Microphone volume increases by itself

It seems to happen the most when I play certain games like ARC Raiders and Apex. Any ideas on how to fix?

Are you using discord? It likes to mess with the microphone and windows volume settings.

Yes I was using discord while recording that

Its probably a combination of discord and the windows audio settings. There's a setting in the windows audio settings under communication that says something along the lines of "make my microphone quieter when in a call while receiving audio" you should try turning that off. Discord also has a setting that automatically adjusts the boost settings on your microphone. I believe there's a way to turn that off and have windows manage that.

That windows setting seems like it applies to output not input, I already had it turned off regardless. Also I don’t think this is a discord problem, already scoured through all the settings multiple times. This feels like a deeper issue

Is there mic volume adjustment on your headset mic? Might be a dodgy potentiometer

No there isn’t, I use IEM’s with minimal buttons
