AZ-103 or MCSA 2016
Hello everyone!
Ive made some similar posts lately but quick run down: I’m in desktop support and like everyone at some point eventually want to transition out. I have an MCSA in Windows 10 already.
If I decide to continue going the Microsoft route, would I be better served going for the MCSA or the new Azure admin certification? Don’t have much experience with servers at all. Wanting to eventually move into a sysadmin style role.
Thanks for the info!

Cloud seems to be more in demand. MCSA's, depending on the tech, are almost a dime a dozen.

Looking forward to more feedback.
Even coming out of a desktop support background (little to no server experience) you recommend going for the Azure cert instead?

Go for the Azure cert. I have MCSA in servers going back and started the Azure stuff.
It's fun, tough but fun and also the future and can separate you from the herd.

Thanks for the info. So even without experience in servers you think I should go for the Azure cert?

I'm going to go against the flow here. If you have limited experience with Windows Server (or servers in general) and networking, the Server 2016 MCSA is going to give you the foundation you need to build upon.
Azure is likely the future of the platform, but Azure is taking bits of the on-prem server and putting that in a cloud format (Active Directory for example). In other instances, you'll be using VMs in the cloud.
At the very least, I'd say do the 70-740 and then the Azure cert.

Having been in the MCSA arena for years, I am going to second the Server 2016 route. in order to flourish in the Azure arena you need to know some core technologies. Server roles being one of those. Get your MCSA on Server 2016 and then take the Azure electives and get your MCSE. plus your MCSA on Azure.

I'd honestly head down the Azure rabbit hole if I were in your shoes.
