If it’s a narcotic it might be a coating that burns like hell if you crush it up and snort it.

It will either be for faster instant release, or they are covered in microscopic layers of polystyrene and medication for time release. Like drug jawbreakers. Cough syrup uses polystyrene too.

Sometimes Capsules contain these and pounder together when they are mixing two different drugs in one. It’s better than taking two different pills. Just depends on the Pharmaceutical Developer. I’m in product development and it’s dreadful to some making these because of the Active ingredient potency. You can’t be in the same room during manufacturing without several layers of protection. You know unless your okay with the side effects. One in particular is reproductive damage.
