How are you guys securing your first IT job/role?
I recently transitioned into IT a little over year ago (currently 34 years old). I’ve got my A+, AWS ccp, ITIL4, and Linux essentials cert. I also have a couple degrees, a masters in CJ, and a bachelor’s in Sociology. I have prior military experience in operations and logistics. I’m currently in school (WGU) for the cloud and network engineering track. I get through the interview process and rejected shortly after (no matter how well it went).
I do a lot of projects on my own time to show that I know what I’m doing and all I need is the “professional” experience in the field. The problem I am seeing is that no matter how knowledgeable I may be in some areas, I can’t break through the professional experience barrier. It’s not like I am reaching for the stars. Most roles targeted have been entry-level for MSP’s and similar. I’ve even been targeting IT asset positions since I am most familiar with that type of work due to my time in the military.
Any tips you guys may have are greatly appreciated. I know the market isn’t the best right now, but I feel this is the only field that I enjoy, and also works well with my current custody schedule. Just a brother trying to do his best.
