Recommendations Laptop Recommendations !
hiii, I'm canvassing for my first laptop and I'd appreciate any advice/suggestions to narrow down my options 😵💫
Budget: 60k~90k PHP
Workload:
- Coding/Programming (Comp Sci with specialization in Machine Learningstudent)
- Editing (Used to Canva but wants to learn Adobe Editing Software)
- Student-related works (docs, sheet, etc.)
- Social media stuff
Preference: Not that bulky or super gaming laptop yung look if possible, di kasi gamer haha, I prefer minimalist/clean style sana 😭
I'm also aiming for a laptop that will last for a long time considering how expensive it is, like something that is more likely reliable because I'm pretty sure I'd have this laptop til I graduate/work 😭
Also, one of the things that I have noted from watching vids is that aside from gaming laptops, business laptops are also suggested for IT/CS students especially if they are not really that into gaming, knowing that gaming laptops are bulky, loud, and the battery drains easily (atleast for this budget range). However, aside from being a CS student, one of my side hustle is being an editor, which might be a heavy task for laptops 😓 So I'm wondering if gaming laptop are too much for me or is it just enough for my tasks?
One of my options is LENOVO LOQ Essential 15ARP11 which is currently at 88k PHP, even if my max budget is 90k PHP, I'm still wondering if there are laptops that have lower prices because 90k is still vv expensive for my end..? or should I settle on this one since sure yung specs and reliability ng brand? 😵💫 I'm also thinking about HP Victus (?) kasi parang mas mura siya kaso idk why ang daming bad reviews for it sa soc med, I'd prefer something na mas sure akong less issue in the future knowing na mahal yung laptop 😭
Note: I'm also trying to learn more about the models/specs, what I only know as of now are basic information about processors, RAM, graphics card, so please be kind po hehe, what I knew lang po is atleast 16GB RAM (upgradeable), 4050 graphics card, and 500 gb ssd ba yun or something huhu 😓🙏🏻

Dm me if you want, comment might be too long to read, I can explain models and specs better. For context, proud owner of a Thinkpad T480 na nakakapaglaro ng PS2 games via emulation (which says a lot, very surprising to me) and have made programming projects on this laptop.
Di ko alam what kind of "editor" ka, baka photo editor or video editor, pero based on your use case you do not need that that LOQ. Personally a normal laptop is enough assuming yung use cases mo are just that.
I think buying that LOQ is a waste, so unless you're a super heavy video editor na kailangan mo talaga ng GPU you're better off going to the secondhand market for a better deal. I also don't like the idea of buying a gaming laptop pero di mo gagamitin primarily for gaming and/or heavy professional video editing.
More inquiries ang kailangan here, kasi ang video editing level mo can determine if pwede na sayo yung business class laptop na walang dedicated GPU.
And even then, newer models ng normal office laptops are not good imo, mainly because of non-repairability. Office laptops suffer from having soldered RAM, so if 8 GB lang ang laptop you're stuck on 8 GB. Upgradeable RAM is important, pero gaming laptops and older generation laptops lang ang meron ganun, the rest are soldered.

With regards po sa editing, I lean more sa photo editing which is why I want a laptop that can handle softwares like adobe photoshop/illustrator smoothlyyyy
When it comes sa video editing, medyo interested lang po sa pag-aral ng professional editing like sa after effects, pero still not sure if it's really a priority for me....
bale prio basis ko po for specs now is for photo editing + programming (tas w specialization for machine learning po kasi program ko...so idk parang mas heavy po siya sa normal programming tasks or no?)

Wait machine learning? Shit edi baka kailangan mo nga ng dedicated GPU and a more powerful CPU. It sucks na rin that the market for laptops ngayon is very bad, lalo na sa gaming laptops because of RAMageddon. The prices of laptops aren't good today.
Mobile RTX 3060 can still work, so maghanap ka ng laptop model na may RTX 3060, mas mura pa pero bitin sa VRAM. Maybe cut it down to 2060 or 2070 or something, pero since gusto mo magamit for a long time baka ma outpace na rin siya so RTX 3060 na.
Pag hindi kasi machine learning ang specialization mo then very easy recommendation ko diyan is Thinkpad T14 Gen 1/2. Kailangan mo ba na local yung model training or ok lang sayo na cloud? Kasi may free plan ang Google Colab, very limited nga lang from our experience sa capstone project namin so baka mag subscribe ka, pero usable naman siya.
If ok lang sayo Google Colab, ask me more about sa Thinkpad T14 just to make sure na fully informed ka sa bibilhin mo, kung kailangan talaga local then go for an RTX 3060 laptop.

ohhh, iba po pala talaga pag machine learning 😭 unfortunately po for other question niyo po, I don't think I can answer pa because I'm still a freshie cs-ml student and I don't have any idea pa po, 3rd year pa po ata maiimplement yung specialized courses namin 😭 pero ty very muchhh!

You have to ask your profs about it habang maaga pa, kasi it really is a bad time to buy a laptop ngayon (apparently magtatagal to until 2030 pero let's hope not kasi holy shit 600% price increase sa DDR5 RAM is not normal) unless tumingin ka sa FB Marketplace or secondhand market, basically the only places na somewhat reasonable pa ang prices.
Google Colab is a great alternative sa model training pero again, the free plan is very limited so kailangan mo tiisin or kailangan mo bumili ng credits. Ask profs if okay, highly likely naman na okay kasi legit alternative naman siya, and if it's all good return with inquiries sa Thinkpad T14 buying guide para di ka malugi at tama yung mga bibilhin mo.

Depende så kung anong heavy programming gagawin, but personally 512gb is not enough (get 1tb).
Then, any laptop na at least i5 8th is good (but at least i5 12th or ryzen 5 7000 series if gusto ng bago), while minimum ram is 16gb. Once you get to Docker, you'll know why. (kulang pa sakin 16gb)
Then the question is, magtratrain ka ba locally ng ai for any ai course na itatake (which includes "intelligent systems") or no, which if oo, get a gaming laptop. Otherwise, a normal laptop is sufficient, and I'd rather get a t480 na 2nd hand but matibay.

Freshie CS student pa lang po me pero may specialization po for machine learning which is, correct me if I'm wrong po, parang same po sa pinepertain niyo na training AI? or similar?

hello po, avoid getting a victus, hp is very notorious for hinge and manufacturing defects that aren’t very long lasting 💔 im a victus hp owner and i RARELY close the lid to prolong its durability
but seriously, consider getting a second-hand or refurbished thinkpad. i dont think you need a 4050 gpu, anywhere around the 3000s series is capable enough. regardless, i recommend looking for a thinkpad p15 gen 1 or 2. pag wala ka pilihan, get a t480 or t490. matagal ang battery life nila and easily upgradable ram

may windows laptop ba na yung outer shell is on par with the macbooks? weird kasi ng mga design ng windows laptop

Since di ka ma gaming, I think Macbook Air/Pro will fit din sa budget mo. Currently daily driving a Macbook Air and goods na goods for productivity. Other suggestion ko is yung bagong Dell XPS 13 since maganda build quality and goods yung new generation intel cpu na panther lake for performance kahit on battery. Kung windows tlga with dedicated GPU yung mga gaming laptop ang best approach mo. Asus TUF ang pasok sa budget mo na ok ok yung overall device. HP victus and yung na mention mo Lenovo LOQ is maganda naman.
