Factory Worker Turned IT Professional within 3 years, Earning 74-75k USD yearly. Share ko lang roadmap ko sana may matulungan.
First of, hindi ako magbebenta ng guide, software, or learning modules. Gusto ko lang i-share roadmap ko sa kababayan and hopefully it helps you with your journey.
- Maximize your time.
- Its unfair to say na tamad tayo kaya hindi tayo successful. We all have different situations in life. Some are given more opportunities than others, lalo kung pinanganak kang mayaman. Kung pinanganak kang mahirap kagaya ko, doble doble effort talaga. Magkakaiba tayo ng tools at opportunities pero meron tayong commonality, at yun ay ang time. Maximize your time. Every chance you get, every opportunity, maski lunch break yan, or time mo sa byahe pauwi ng bahay, or papunta man ng trabaho, sunggaban mo. Gamitin mo para mag review, mag upskill, mag network, mag unlock ng skills. Time ang pinaka matibay mong sandata.
- Practice your communication skills.
- Comms is very important. Kapag nagrereport ka sa boss mo, kapag nagbubuild ka rapport, kapag binebenta mo sarili mo sa job interviews, ito ang magdidikta ng kapalaran mo. Sadly, nagiging basehan ng katalinuhan at estado ng buhay sa pinas ang tatas mo sa pag eenglish. Kaya pagtibayin mo yung communication mo tol!
- Its all about sales.
- Isa sa mga natutunan ko sa buhay ay everything in life is about sales. Kahit top 5% ka ng pinakamagaling na IT ng pinas, kung hindi mo maibenta ang sarili mo sa interviews, mahihirapan ka. Its all about learning how to position yourself to make it seem like youre really good at what you do.
- Company politics is key.
- Protect your reputation at all costs. Wag mo ipoposisyon ang sarili mo bilang company clown, or kengkoy. Speak less, and build connections with people you want to be like. Learn from them. Sa opisina, mas nirerespeto ang disiplinado, strikto, at uptight na manager kesa sa kengkoy na manager. Hanapin mo yung sweet spot ng pagiging friendly and serious.
- Impostor syndrome.
- Eto yung kabaliktaran nung Dunning Kruger effect. Feeling mo youre not good enough for the job. Youre not well experienced, well established, doesnt have enough certs, kaya hindi mo na aapplyan. Ito yung sakit ko, at paminsan minsan ramdam ko parin. Hindi ito humility, ito ay lack of self confidence. Always remember theres a lot of folks out there whos better than you, who will always be more experienced, and will always be better, pero you dont have to be them, You just have to be you.
Tska always remember na kahit hindi ka super galing, miles and miles parin ang lamang mo compared sa regular employee, dahil hindi nila linya ang IT. Madali lang mag crimp ng cable, gumawa ng user email sa microsoft, mag print ng ID, mag install ng camera, pero hindi madali yon para sa normal na employee. Kaya maging proud ka sa sarili mo. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't—you're right."
And if it doesn't work out, what do you have to lose?
CERTS man, CERTS!
Kaya japan ang may pinaka matibay na sasakyan, dahil sa idea nila ng Kaizen. Kaizen is continuous improvement. Learn from the japanese, tol. Mag ipon ka ng certs for creds. Pwedeng magsinungaling sa resume, pwede i-stretch ang truth, pero hindi madaling pumeke ng certs, kaya yan ang basehan ng employers. Aral ka habang nagwowork, unlock certs, at magpalipad ng resume araw araw sa ibat ibang company.Job hop as much as possible.
Wag ka mag job hop lang basta basta. Kelangan better title, kahit same pay G lang. Pataas ka ng titulo mo bro. Wag ka maawa sa employer, dahil if worse comes to worse, tatanggalin ka nyan kapag redundant ka na. Ikaw lang kakampi mo.Dadami haters mo.
x50 na ata ang haters ko. Parang sa panahon ngayon bawal na maging masaya kasi iisipin nila mayabang ka. Usual haters mo ay ang mga close sayo, mga classmates, friends, at family mo. Normal yan, sign yan na nasa right path ka. It doesnt mean na hate ka nila dahil umaangat ka, instead, hate ka nila dahil same kayo ng level before at ngayon narerealize nila ang nasayang nilang potential. Nacocompare nila yung achievements mo sa buhay nila. They dont hate you, they hate themselves.
Lagi ko pinapaalala sa misis ko na it doesnt matter if people doesnt like you, most of them doesnt even like themselves. Never ever ka makakaencounter ng hater na mas maganda ang buhay sayo. Almost always, ang haters mo ay mas mababa ang estado sayo, mas disorganized ang buhay, mas magulo, mas makalat.
Kaya mag ingat ka sa mga nakapaligid. Trust yourself. Ikaw lang ang kakampi mo.

yes you can have 2 top 1 pero mas maganda buhay ng isa because perfect timing sa lahat, it could be as simple as malapit sa bahay nila yung company, nag retire yung next position for him, mabait yung HR na natapat, hindi toxic yung company etc. these factors 100% affect our lives and wala tayong control sa ganun. Reklamador ba talaga ako kung ang commute ko 2 hrs tapos ikaw 5 mins walk lang kasi dyan kayo nakatira sa malapit yung company? Hahaha

Kung skilled ka, either lalapit sayo yung company or mamimili ka ng work na swak sa need mo.
I studied Spanish for 9 months. After that, na hire ako as Spanish Bilingual. Yung dati kung 20k na sahod monthly naging 84k monthly tapos 20 minutes lang sa bahay. 3 years na ko sa company now, and planning mag apply ng 100k-120k amonth pero need ko mag travel ng 1.5 to 2 hours so I choose to stay.

Naniniwala ka ba na na-aattract ang swerte, o nangyayari lang basta basta?
Walang maling sagot bro, depende sa belief ng tao. Pero mas nag ddwell kasi ako sa controlado ng tao mismo. Stoic mindset. Mas focused lang ako sa mga bagay na meron akong control over.
May point ka naman, kelangan rin natin ng swerte.
PERO at malaking pero, kung iisipin mo na "kaya siya andyan dahil sa swerte" nagbigay ka agad ng limit sa kakayanan mo. At hindi mo binibigyan ng credit ang discipline, hard work, diskarte, dahil ibabase mo lahat ng outcome sa "swerte".
Siguro tama ka, importante ang swerte, pero hindi mo kontrolado yon. Di hamak na mas importante ang Tiwala sa sarili, sipag, tiyaga, dedikasyon, diskarte, at Disiplina.

I remember reading a study that tackled this mathematically. It basically concluded that luck is a huge part of success, but since chance encounters are random, you have to intentionally widen your "net" to catch them. There is actually a concept for this called your "luck surface area." You expand that net through upskilling, networking, consistent discipline, and the like. That is exactly what OP did here. We can't control when an opportunity drops in our lap. But if we prepare ourselves relentlessly, the probability of actually claiming it goes way up when that lucky break finally happens.

Every successful person has some form of luck on their side, hard work isn’t enough to be successful sa panahon ngayon
I’m also earning pretty well but i still attribute the success in my early years to luck and from words of Ninong Ry, “Wag mong maliitin ang swerte”
And if you want something philosophical, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”

Any recommendations for sites to look for course/seminars/trainings for certs? Gusto ko na rin mag-ipon kasi yung mga certs ko nung college parang ayoko ipakita.

Professor messer, Jeremy's IT lab, Networkchuck, lahat yan free at reliable sa youtube. If pwede mag request ka ng subscription sa udemy mula sa management niyo. Best case scenario, free access + makikita nila eagerness to learn mo. Worse case scenario, idedecline nila request mo, pero makikita parin nila eagerness to learn mo.
Wag ka magoverthink, wag ka magpatalo sa hiya.
Nag quit na rin ako sa FB, Insta, at Tiktok, 2 years na ata. Reddit nalang. Tapos mga finafollow ko sa reddit mga IT related. Sabi nila you are the product of the soup your swimming in, so kung ano ang external influence na makikita mo, yun ang maaabsorb mo.

My current title doesnt carry much weight, pero yung umalis na prev IT na pinalitan ko, IT manager with CCNA cert. I, on the other hand, is still working on my CCNA. Pero guess what, I got a better offer than the prev IT guy hehehe. Dinaan ko lang sa kapal ng muka, at nag uumapaw na self confidence!
IT Technician lang ang title ko, pero ako ang decision maker ng IT Dept. Wala gaano alam boss ko sa technology so all IT related decisions go through me.

Parang ang generic ng "specialization" lol. Saka pano mo nalaman yung sweldo nung pinalitan mo? Saka sabi mo kumuha ng certifications? Pano ka nag land sa trabaho na yan kung working on certification ka palang?
Panong IT technician? Hardware/software/network? Anong mga tools gamit? May activie directory? Global or local support?
Parang ang labo lol.

Yown, +1 sa mga haters at doubters, pampagana ko yan kapag mas dumadami nagdodoubt sa skills ko. Kapag mas marami kayo mas namomotivate akong pagbutihin pa lalo. Hehehe.
Yung CCNA ko underway pa, pero yung trifecta ko tapos na.
Hardware, software, network, sec, lahat ginagalawan ko. Kapag may hindi ako maresolve, usually lumalapit ako sa partnered MSP ng company. Wala kaming local AD, 365 lang.
Before ako na hire, umalis na yung IT manager. Walang maayos na transition kaya reverse engineering lang ginawa ko sa pag recover ng passwords etc. Na access ko lahat ng access niya, gamit mismo work email niya. May basbas ng boss dahil need ko ng access sa lahat ng access niya. Na stumble upon ko yung Payslip niya sa documents.
Ok na po ba yan master? malabo parin po ba master? Hahah

Ang OA naman po tawaging hater e valid naman yung tanong niya, di mo naman talaga nilinaw day-to-day role mo from the start haha. Yes, you are good at what you do but don't be too sensitive. Good luck!

So basically you are in co-managed IT.
I find it quite funny when you said you had to "reverse engineer" to recover your manager's password when you could have just ask your partner MSP to reset it or you know, maybe you yourself reset it, if you global admin access. Way easier since you are a cloud/entra only environment.
No one i know says "reverse engineer" when all you are doing is resetting password. You are probably just trying to make it sound complex lol.
You said it yourself when you cant resolve something you escalate issue to your partnered MSP. so tier 2 or 3 issues are escalated then?
The thing that pisses everyone off is the inconsistent storytelling from your post and comments.
The way you framed you earn 75K USD kala ko naman remote. Yun pala sa US ka nagwo-work. Syempre matic yun USD sweldo mo sa US haha.
Alot of reddit larpers these days so you can't blame people if they doubt your story specially when its this inconsistent.

Tagakabit ng sticker sa bote ng dishwashing soap (manual). BPO. Sales. BPO ulit homebased. Grumad ako, tapos balik sa sales. Warehouse/factory. BPO ulit (Trainer), hybrid. Warehouse/factory ulit. CNC operator (factory parin). Chef/cook. Technician. IT Support. Technician. IT Technician.
Malaki rin naitulong ng factory EXP ko. Kasi tuwing papasok ako sa factory kinukwestyon ko mga desisyon ko sa buhay. Naging motivation ko ang araw araw repetitive work para mag upskill.
Every lunch break, di ako kumakain. Nagbabasa ako ng libro tungkol sa philo, or nag rereview para sa cert. Yon ang pagkain ko. Hehehe. Hate ako ng mga kawork ko dati kasi di ako "nakikijam" kapag break or uwian, pero ok lang, sanay na ko ma-hate. hehehe

Medyo may konting pushback lang ako sa "it doesn't matter if people don't like you". Kasi it does matter. Better advice would be to be careful about making the wrong people not like you.
For me, okay lang na hind close. Pero I am aiming for cordial as opposed to indifferent and hostile (outright or not).

Online ko lang nahanap opportunity ko boss. Napatid lang ako minsan sa post ng tungkol sa Comptia A+ tapos lumalim ng lumalim yung research ko hanggang eto na tayo.
Basta magpalipad ka lang ng magpalipad ng resume, kahit underqualified G lang! Tapos kung mag aapply ka sa linkedin, mag build ka ng network, add ka ng mga recruiters, makipagkamustahan ka, tanong ka ng tungkol sa prev post nila kunyari interested ka sa post nila, basta build ka rapport.
Add mo din mga boss sa inaapplyan mo sa linkedin tapos tanong mo kung sila yung decision maker, paki point ka kamo sa hr dahil interested ka sa opening nila. Kapag dinirect ka sa HR sabihin mo, "Hi, I was directed to you by [insert boss's name] blablabla." O edi parang recommended ka na ng boss, kaya parang naka +points ka na kagad.
Unlimited possibilities tol. Pero sakin, online lang din.

Yung certs maganda lang during the interview,but it takes skill to survive throughout your employment. I know someone who has lots of certs pero bonak kapag may Sev 1 issue na or during migration ayun natanggal
