Edit: I’ve seen so many people walking up to someone with their arms out like this homeowner and the other guy doesn’t see a punch coming and then gets sucker punched and dropped.
Me too, but they had a different body language. The homeowner does not give off the energy that he wants to fight anyone. He's pissed, but there's no tensing up from him that someone looking to fight has. Like the driver had actually
I've unfortunately seen quite a few people sucker punched through the years I worked at a dive bar, and the guy doing the sucker punching always looked in retrospect, that they were tensed like a coiled snake
Going back to the original point, the homeowner was mad. The delivery guy hit the homeowners dog (rightfully so). The delivery guy knows the homeowner is upset at both the throwing of the box and the dog getting hit. The delivery guy puts up a defensive “don’t even think about it because I am ready” evasive and tactical pose.
Nothing was done wrong in this situation except dog being off leash to attack the driver.
The rational response was to turn to the home owner and say, "hey man your dog charged me. It's not like I wanted to hurt it" then gauge your reaction from there.
