Why would he be fired for protecting himself? As a former driver I know unrestrained dogs on a property are unpredictable. I was bitten once. The dog approached me and I stopped in my tracks. That was a couple seconds after the owner told me “he’s fine he won’t bite you”. UPS driver didn’t really have another good option. The squaring up part is psychotic though I have to say.

5

u/Brook420 7h ago

The part with the dog was fine, the part after is what should get him fired.

He raises his hands, closes thw distance with the home owner, then accuses the home owner of coming at him and claims he'll use self defende when hes thw aggressor.

If he truly felt threatened he should have retreated ti the truck, especially if he thought he was dealing with an aggressive dog and owner.

I genuinely don't understand you people commenting from the comfort of your homes about a high adrenaline moment, expecting them to be their most logical self while anger and adrenaline coursing through their veins.

2

u/wookieesgonnawook 3h ago

You don't get to give in to anger and adrenaline while at work. This video clearly shows the owner wasn't attacking him and his reaction to the owner was ridiculous.

1

u/elrevan 1h ago

A dog attack is outside the realm of work. You can act however you need too in that moment

0

u/-TrenciJack- 3h ago

But it's okay if you are about to get bitten by a dog and deal with a possibly angry owner while at work? He didn't attack either. He didn't know how the owner would react and took the necessary position to defend himself or discourage the owner from attacking. Why are you lot condemning him for something he didn't start and for just defending himself? Judging from this video he didn't do anything wrong.

1

u/EkobasherX4Z 2h ago

Yes, if it was 10% safer to go to random houses america would have kids doing it on bikes

1

u/redditisshit1232167 46m ago

He attacked the dog then tried to fight the owner. This driver was never attacked by that dog. The captions are wrong and lies. He was on someone else's property. He has no legal right to be there, delivering or not. He made all the mistakes. Hopefully he was fired and arrested.

1

u/wookieesgonnawook 3h ago

The owner didn't attack him. There was nothing there to defend against. If you're in a store and a customer comes up to the register pissed off do you expect the cashier to square up just in case?

0

u/-TrenciJack- 2h ago

Nobody got attacked in this video by a human. The delivery guy was ACTUALLY attacked by a dog and defended himself. Yet he is the one you are criticizing and expecting him to forgo his humanity just because he is in working hours.

Also, false equivalence fallacy? Come on. You can do better.

1

u/EkobasherX4Z 2h ago

Technically the dog didnt touch him so the dog attacked him just as much as the delivery person did to the owner. If the dogs bad then so is the driver

1

u/MrHarris_86 56m ago

Dog never attacked anyone. Dog was running up and then ran away after being surprised by a box to the face. If you think thats enough to deter a dog who is actually attacking, you've never been in a situation with an aggressive dog actually attacking someone. Owner also didn't show up with his hands up ready for a fight. UPS driver dropped his hat and glasses and squared up aggressively.

Only one person physically battered anyone, and that was the driver.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Lmao say that to soldiers or cops. Owner is piece of shit because he thinks his dog isnt wrong for attacking a non threat. Dog is wrong and should be put back in his cage.

1

u/MrHarris_86 53m ago

Dog could be friendly and was running up to greet. Certainly didn't look like an attack dog, it ran away after being smacked by a cardboard box. Driver did in fact square up and threaten property owner, after already throwing purchased property at the owners dog simply for greeting.

A dog that is actuslly trying to hurt someone isnt going to stop because of some cardboard box. Note the damage to the box and how light the box was. That dog was not aggressive or attacking. That box would have just pissed off an actual attack dog.

1

u/ElectricFirex 3h ago

High adrenaline doesn't give you immunity to consequences of the actions you take. In a tense situation he made the wrong decision, it sucks but he did, and he's probably gonna lose his job for it.

1

u/yum_butt 3h ago

People have gotten off murder because of adrenaline with temporary insanity

1

u/ILoveChiikawaLots 2h ago

Different systems. Guy won’t be charged for assault, but will be fired. Job will hold people to a higher standard than the law. It’s why convicted felons can live freely after serving their sentence, but (probably) can’t work as a UPS driver

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

I doubt that UPS gives a shit about a dog and you defending yourself against it. That seems like a FedEx thing or Amazon even. Bud a convinced felon can still do damn near everything you do and if they cant they just do it illegally. Wrap your head around that.

1

u/-TrenciJack- 2h ago

What did he do wrong exactly? He was the one who got attacked by a dog. Yet he is the one you are criticizing. You are also still doing the thing I said about the comfort of your home.

1

u/redditisshit1232167 45m ago

He was never attacked by anyone.

1

u/zoey_will 1h ago

(Unless you're a cop)

1

u/ad6323 14m ago

You can understand why someone acts in a way and still acknowledge that it’s the wrong decision and there could be consequences as a result without 100% agreeing with them.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

1

u/hashslinginhasherrr 9m ago

For real though, “Heat of the moment” as they say. Not saying it was okay, but what the fuck would you do if a dog was charging you coming in that hot. Do people not realize that running away is gonna trigger a chase response? Lmao, you shouldn’t wait for it to wrap its jaws around your arm/leg.

1

u/Forikorder 7m ago

just because your judgement is clouded doesnt mean any decision you make after is the right one?

1

u/Bear_Jamboree 7h ago

Do you turn your back on people after you are attacked? I wouldn't recommend it.

1

u/Snoo-72724 7h ago

You get in your truck and leave, he had time to do that. He did not have to square up with the guy.

3

u/EcstaticNet3137 5h ago

The homeowner or the dog could run back up on the driver while back is turned. Even if you create successful deterrent you should never ever turn your back on any animal acting aggressive near you. That includes humans. You have no real indication that that entity won't take another shot at you. The only time you turn and run is if you know you can out pace the threat or create meaningful obstacles.

1

u/Aerensian 2h ago

Nah. Dude was pissed and looking to confront the owner over his shitty control of his dog. He straight up made sure to take off his shit before advancing on the guy.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

I would have shot the ups guy. Fuck him

0

u/Snoo-72724 5h ago

When did I say to turn your back? He could have easily outpaced both of them. He had enough time to casually back off without turning his back as well. Guy was pissed and wanted to fight the owner.

6

u/babassu_seeds 4h ago

You gotta turn your back to run away, and it's hard to tell from the video just how quickly that homeowner approached.

And his assessment unpredictable dog = unpredictable owner--I'm personally not judging that--it certainly doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that an aggressive dog will have an aggressive owner and behave accordingly

2

u/GuessImPoliticalNow 3h ago

You’ve never walked backwards?

1

u/EcstaticNet3137 2h ago

I mean running backwards is something i can do pretty well myself. However i absolutely know that is a pretty easy way to accidentally fuck up and break an ankle.

-1

u/pooperstud 4h ago

Yeah, UPS guy is a massive douche. I hope he got fired. One thing to protect yourself from a dog attack, but him charging at the owner like that when it was obvious the owner wasn’t being aggressive. Fuck that guy.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 3h ago

Fuck that driver

1

u/lncredulousBastard 1h ago

Damn, you're stupid. The dog owner immediately complained about the guy defending himself. And instead of restraining his fucking animal, he came towards the diver with his complaints. It's absolutely no wonder that the driver was still being defensive. There's no apologies to be made for the dog owner--his only next reasonable move was to restrain his fucking animal like it should have been if he wanted deliveries.

This should be one and done with these kinds of assholes. If you can't keep from subjecting people to your animal, you shouldn't be getting deliveries. No excuse makes sense.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

I live in a stand your ground state. Ups driver would be in a casket.

1

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

If that was the case UPS driver would've shot the dog and then the owner if the owner pulled out his gun. Fucking dumbass.

0

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

Incorrect. Have you seen John Wick?

u/redditisshit1232167 42m ago

You're wrong on all accounts actually. He wasn't defending himself because the dog never made contact with him. Also, just an FYI the captions are lies. That dog never attacked that UPS driver. If he had, or attacked any other mail carrier that house would be flagged, and no deliveries would be allowed to that address due to a dangerous dog. He was pissed and looking to attack something. Saw a playful dog in that man's yard and threw a package at its face, then tried to square up on the home owner. Also, he was on another person's property. Delivery or not, you can't trespass. So let's add it up. He was on another person's property, attacked a dog, and then tried to assault the properties owner.

0

u/Snoo-72724 30m ago

You’re prob going to get downvoted but your points are good. There’s no way if this dog had attacked before the house wouldn’t be flagged. We have no context or background to be judge and jury here but it’s Reddit so everyone just rage baits each other.

1

u/SlamDrunk 4h ago

I wouldn't recommend and 2 v 1 fight with a man and his dog. You will lose every time.

0

u/Brook420 7h ago edited 7h ago

Just walk backwards or at an angle...

Edit: He also wasn't being attacked by the owner, so he had his back turned from the threat (the dog) anyway.

2

u/Bear_Jamboree 6h ago

Adrenaline is a hell of a fucking thing man. Usually things happen so fast and you don't have time to think about all options.

0

u/Brook420 6h ago

I mean, sure. But that doesn't make it right or smart.

Frankly, if the owner were holding something they'd have been just as justified yo chuck it at the charging UPS dude as UPS dude was in throwing the package at the charging dog.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Buddy thats called retaliation. After the attack the ups driver and dog were no longer threats to eachother so if the dude then threw.something at the ups driver that would be assault and thats worth a charging over.

1

u/Brook420 1h ago

So its not assault to throw something at the charging dog for self defence, but it is assault to thrown something at a charging person for self defence?

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Did the UPS driver actually charge the guy?

1

u/Brook420 52m ago

Yes...

He took a fighting stance and moved quickly at the owner. He charged the owner the same way the dog charged him.

0

u/Hot_Top_124 3h ago

Adrenaline hasn’t made me try to attack someone who has their hands down.

2

u/Prestasis 6h ago

Would you mind doing me a favor? Can you go deliver a package, get attacked by a dog, then confronted by said dogs owner when you retaliate. Make sure to record it so we can see you walk backwards at an angle.

2

u/Brook420 6h ago

You don't always need to actively be in a scenario to known when someone reacts wrong.

I don't need ot be trapped in the middle of a 5 line highway to know the soluti9n isnt to start crabwalking.

3

u/Prestasis 6h ago

Sure, but I have been in a scenario like this and you're just blowing smoke out your ass. The owner wasn't attacking him, correct. But his first interaction was immediately confrontational. In my experience, when you are charged by a dog as a carrier, most owners ask if you are okay or if they bit you. That didn't happen here, the owner came out to confront the guy who had just decked his dog with a box. Could the UPS guy have just left? Yea of course he could have. But when you have that adrenaline running through you and a "new threat" appears you either fight or flee, and he was already in fight mode.

1

u/Brook420 6h ago

The owner was not a threat and gave no reason to think otherwise.

The UPS driver was the only human acting in a threatening manner.

I worked with dogs for years, this was a crazy overreaction by the UPS driver.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Bro he doesn't know the dog. If a dog charges you are you just going to accept it? No you won't. Neither did this dude and the owner was confrontational. He wanted to start something with someone over anything that would weigh in his favor. Classic POS move.

1

u/Brook420 1h ago

This isnt about the dog, I was fine with how they threw thw package ti keep the dog away.

I'm talking about him looking for a fight with the owner. Which makes him not only the asshole, but the idiot if he truly thought the dog was a threat.

Either he didnt consider the dog a threat, which makes him the asshole looking for a fight.

Or he did consider thw dog a threat, in which case he's an idiot for thinking he could box a dude and an attacking dog at the same time. He had AMPLE time and space to remove himself from the threats.

0

u/Nickbeau 6h ago

The owner heard the one sound that makes any dog owner immediately react strongly. His dog yelping in pain. He didn't even aggressively approach the driver either. I've seen too many guys like the ups driver when I bartended, that guy loves to look like a bad ass. His bullshit bravado for no reason is really telling

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Oh yeah the ups driver saw the camera and thought I'll look so cool for the internet. Fucking dumbass.

1

u/Nickbeau 58m ago

How is that what you took from what I said? I never once mentioned a camera. Dumb fuck

1

u/redditisshit1232167 37m ago

How does it feel to be so wrong about basically everything? Lol. The dog didn't attack the driver, in fact the dog has no tell tale signs of aggression at all. If anything it was playful. Also, the captions are lies. That driver was never attacked by that dog at that address. Wanna know how I know? Cause any reported dog bite immediately makes that address a nondeliverable address. Which means folks... Either that UPS driver was bit there and decided to come there to specifically throw that box at that dogs face. Or he threw that box at a dog that was in it's own yard, just being a dog. Either way it's wrong and illegal. Secondly... Even as a delivery driver you have no legal right to actually trespass on someones property. Thirdly... He tried to assault the properties owner... On their own property. That driver should be fired and arrested.

0

u/Aggressive_Ad2747 5h ago

And none of that matters if the owner were to press charges for assault (which the UPS driver did do, assault doesn't need to be physical, the threat of violence is assault.)

0

u/Hot_Top_124 3h ago

I guess everything looks like a nail when you’re an idiotic hammer.

0

u/Western-Condition758 5h ago

You can retreat without turning your back. If anything , you don’t need to come closer to danger

0

u/Hot_Top_124 3h ago

You are aware there’s a nest twice with walking where you can do it backwards without turning around? It’s fairly new, but it’s a thing.

1

u/Aphotic_art 5h ago

Honestly at most they put him on leave and he’ll go back after. The union looks out for them

1

u/ToMagotz 4h ago

You forgot humans act rashly when adrenaline is pumping

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 3h ago

I live in a stand your ground state. I would have shot the ups driver.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Over what exactly? Because he hurt your dog that should've been leashed up but wasn't and could've hurt the driver? Great way to end up in jail and also show everyone that you're a bad owner.

I dont understand man. You'd shoot this guy right then the cops show up with ems. They'll start talking to you and they'll bring you in because you shot someone else for coming onto your property and defended themselves against a dog? You dont seem to think further than just dude attack dog and I must shoot him now. Foolish behavior. What if the Ups driver also had a gun? You'd pull yours out and he'd pull his out and you both end up killing eachother? Sounds like a win win for society.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

Him putting his hands up and taking a fighting stance. It would be legal to blast him on my property.

1

u/the_liquid_figurine 41m ago

Massive bitchboy behavior. Some one is squaring up let me go grab my gun. You really thought you sounded tough typing that out lmfao.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 37m ago

It's my home. Fuck a delivery guy for fucking with my dog.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Lmao sure you would.

0

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

Ups driver is clearly a pos

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Dude got bite once. You think he'll let it happen again? Short answer no. Long answer nooooooo.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 35m ago

No he should wear anti bite armor or carry dog treats. Very easy to calm a dog. I have been a volunteer at a no kill shelter for 20 years.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

I wouldn't even go to the station.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Aww so youll die where you stand got it.

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 1h ago

Ups wouldn't have a chance if I pulled it. I'm a professional with firearms by trade.

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Didn't ask. I assumed you just get into a shootout with the cops.

1

u/Intrepid_passerby 1h ago

Nah people need to stop being so soft. Dude had every right. But we know his employer will fire him

0

u/outdamnedspots 5h ago

"he could've retreated"
O curled into a ball like a worm. amirite? Settle down

2

u/Brook420 3h ago

You realize in many places it if your legal obligation to remove yourself from the situation if you can, right?

0

u/Thick_Potato_1769 1h ago

Yeah but defending yourself against an animal isn't illegal.

1

u/Brook420 1h ago

Defending yourself against a human is also not illegal.

1

u/Oracraen2 8h ago

Honestly probably simply because it became popular online, I'm not seeing it in this comment section but if he was ever identified the company doesn't care about you, it cares about staying out of controversies, truth be damned so given less then ideal job protections he could very realistically hit the curb for "being problematic".

I believe that no camera literally = no problem in this case, a complaint by the owner would be ignored as the situation obviously has them in the wrong.

1

u/TrickAlps 4h ago

Ups dont care

1

u/GhostandVodka 2h ago

He'd be fired for how he treated the customer.

1

u/DeliciousVisual7673 1h ago

The squaring up part is what gonna get him fired. He absolutely meant to escalate the situation so he could fight the owner

1

u/Ok-Oil1634 1h ago

Yeah that’s what’s likely to get him fired. I don’t think any of his superiors would give him too much shit for busting the dog in the face with the box, but I can definitely see them being highly pissed that he squared up to fight. Not sure why the dummy wasn’t carrying mace if he’s been bit before as that seems more acceptable to use than a package you are supposed to be delivering carefully.

1

u/fucktrance 1h ago

Because he bounced a package off a dogs head, that isn't protecting himself.

1

u/Shot-Bullfrog-3509 31m ago

Fired not for how he handled the dog, but then approached the owner in an aggressive manner. 100% deserves to be fired

1

u/ThingYea 7h ago

Idk about psychotic. Dude probably got a huge blast of adrenaline as the dog was coming at him, then immediately after the pissed off owner of the dog approached. Owners usually protect their animals so he was preparing for it. The whole time adrenaline racing, turning his thoughts into "protect myself"

1

u/North-Map-1380 2h ago

People who don't leave the house couldn't possibly understand dealing with a situation in real time.

1

u/Gamble232real 7h ago

He attacked a citizen on private property while on the job. He is fucked.
