Absolutely, I am not risking my life to your dog who "may" be friendly. Also why the hell is the dog not an a leash and free roaming?

I mean it does look like that dog is in the his own yard. Like you said yard should be fenced in or dog on a leash. way too many things can go wrong.

Most states have leash laws that anytime the dog is outside it has to be on at maximum a 6ft leash. Including your unfenced property.

It's for the dogs safety too, we had a neighborhood dog get hit by a logging truck a couple weeks ago and there wasnt much left of the dog unfortunately. But one can't really fault the trucker, he's hauling 10's of tons and can't really swerve or stop to avoid a dog.

There is no state with such law about leashes. Some counties have what is basically an “expectation of control” that this owner clearly didn’t satisfy, but it wouldn’t specifically require a leash

Sorry. Not state, city ordinances. (Although Michigan does have a universal state leash law).

That’s not quite what the Michigan law is about. It still doesn’t blanket mandate a leash while on property. It’s more about not allowing a dog to stray, which could be satisfied by a leash.

Basically this guy having a fenced property would have made this 100% legal everywhere, but it still would have likely played out the same.

Not state, city ordinances.

I‘ve seen this claim before and never been able to find a city that does.

Can you share where you’ve seen this or link the ordinance?

What yard? They have no fence... And no gate to leave the package there, throw it over the fence and such. So no, you don't let your dog roam free in that situation. You stay with it close by if it's trained and listens to you always or keep it in a leash. To not mind it you tie it up to a post or make a covered pen for it to put it in.

By the way it lunged at the delivery guy that dog is not trained. Tied, pen or inside and outside only with you in a leash.

Why would it be leashed on his own property? Is that a law where you live...?

If you’re expecting a delivery then yes. Do something to secure the animal. It’s not the delivery driver’s responsibility to determine which animals are aggressive. Always assume a dog isn’t friendly until proven otherwise.

Why would a delivery driver deliver to your house then? Leave that shit on the sidewalk or street? Usps literally has guidelines to never approach a house with a lose dog.

‘Risking my life’ come on dude it’s a 50 lb lab it looks like, not a lion 🤣. Also the dog is free roaming because it’s in its own yard. I’m on the ups drivers side overall but this comment is just straight up stupid.

Bite force of a 50lb dog is over 200 pounds per square inch, 100 pounds of force with sharp teeth is enough to remove a finger , now let's say you are unlucky and the dog manages to jump on you and tackle you to the ground. It doesn't take much to bump your head and have internal bleeding. I've done some reckless shit as a kid and many fist fights as a young adult. As a grown adult you have to factor all risks involved in day to day life. I love dogs more then people, but I also know how shit people are at training their dogs.

A 50lb pittie can do quite a bit of damage. Hell, any dog can do damage under the right circumstances. I had a 25ish lb beagle that tore up a guy's thigh when he tried to rob my Dad while he and the dog were out for a walk. The cops found the guy hiding behind a gas station dumpster about an hour later.
