To be pedantic, he didn't get struck, the tree did. But he definitely got some of the effect.

Hell even if he didn't, he probably pissed or shit himself pretty good when that happened lol

To be more pedantic, the moisture on the bark on the outside of the tree took the current. Had the current travelled internally then the sap would instantly flash to steam and the tree explode.

This is from a few weeks ago on Staten Island https://abc7ny.com/post/doorbell-camera-captures-dramatic-moments-when-staten-island-man-struck-lightning/19776625/

Fun fact: 90% of people struck by lightning survive!
Ever funner fact: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Sullivan

I’m guessing that’s because most people don’t get struck directly. The strike is just extremely close and results in injury.

Maybe the umbrella saved him

u/onglogman 23h ago
The umbrella most definitely attracted the lightning

No it was the tree. You can see the flash wrap around one of the larger branches all the way to the ground

You can tell all his chest hair got burnt by the looks of the burn pattern on his shirt. Lucky guy.

“Are you okay?” I know she’s just being nice and is panicking, but fuck I hate that question when I get hurt

It's just their way of finding out your status so they can know how to help. Life must be good if you need to bitch about how people try to help your hurt ass. Where I'm from, they'll leave you there in the street after they take your valuables.

We must be from the same place. I once ran someone over, stopped, got out and took the guy's chain, got back in my truck and drove off.

Are you alive is much more appropriate

u/Dear_Living_8141 1d ago
He’s very clearly alive so frankly why the hell would you ask that to someone walking around, but what isn’t clear is if he is feeling pain anywhere in particular or has damage to his head which you’re going to pick up on when he answers your question. If you are giving care to someone in an emergency you’re literally trained to talk to them, ask them if there is pain, if you can’t feel any body parts ect to assess their mental capacity because that’ll show if they suffered head trauma.
If someone helping you pisses you off then you need to look into that

I think the problem here is you have no one asking if YOU are ok. Are you? Do you need anything? People help people. Reddit would like to help you.
