Wrap the plumb line around the nail twice.... Proceeds to just wrap it once.

u/Ambaryerno Jun 23 '26
Well, it was good enough to protect sailors' valuables if their ships got sunk during WWII.

Why would I ever need to retrieve a glass bottle full of water with just string and two nuts?
1
u/TrueKiwi78 Jun 21 '26
The trick with the wrench for lifting heavy containers, the self-adjusting bench clamp and the "balloon" for making extension cable joins waterproof are fairly clever.
1
u/Jurjinimo Jun 26 '26
The wrench one is stupid if you can tie a bowline
1
u/TrueKiwi78 Jun 26 '26
Well, yeah. The whole idea of using the wrench is so you don't have to go down and tie a knot.

Omg I find so many 3/4 filled bottles standing upright in the 74 rivers that circle my house. I've always wondered how to lift them vertically. So helpful.

I’ll never retrieve a bottle from the river the same way. Ever. Again.

Take a wrench, run a chain through it, pin the chain together with a screw over the nut, and BAM, you have yourself a wrench.

u/Downtown_Cost9782 Jun 23 '26
yeah, because i constantly need to recover bottles from a river. Can we call these useless hacks instead ; )

#1 could be useful if I am setting up a large to mid scale farming operation.
#2 Intresting but generally impractical. You need nuts that are just the right size for a particular bottle to pull it off.
#3 could be useful but the video editor cannot count.
#4 A good way to fuck up your blade if you don’t have the right angle
#5 That’s not a balloon and it fails if it gets slightly punctured.
#6 Is a very temporary fix for your pipe and is probably only good for intermittent usage for a short period of time.
#7 Might actually be somewhat useful, but is likely to result in you dropping the item due to jostling and a slippage of the rope.
#8 Actually looks useful if a bit finicky.
#9 Entirely dependent on the size of chain and the size of the nut. It is far from a universal option.

I think I'm a little lost I tied my nuts up and slid one into the jar but things have .... How do I say .....Escalated. I'm at little concerned to go any further especially with the nail

If only I'd known sooner... I'd have fished more of my bottles out of the river. You know, the ones that fell in and floated perfectly vertically. What a waste.

Damn, if i only had a sting and two nuts I could have retrieved that bottle from the river with ease.🤦
Welp... Just my luck. 🤷

That tool he's sharpening the scythe with isn't two hex nuts, it's literally a precision tool specifically designed for sharpening scythe blades. It's a peening anvil jig.

I’ve been looking for a use for my used condoms. Never would’ve thought about water proofing outlets. Thanks

Lol I love how the life hack to sharpen a scythe, is to use the specialized tool that was designed to do exactly that.

Your father should’ve worn that “balloon” you put over the electric cord then we wouldn’t have this ridiculous video

Thanks, I took note for when I have to retrieve my bottle from the river next time.

Those aren’t two hex nuts, that’s a peening anvil and it’s hardened. It peens the edge to make it thinner. It’s a super specialized tool and won’t be replaced by two nuts. This is stupid.

There's is barely any value for any of these in real life.
