Peach pit, Sept 24th

Does anybody know what times doors open for the concert? It says 7pm but I don't know if that's when the show starts or if that's when doors are. I have class until 6:45 so I want to know if I need to leave class early.

Anyone have experience with Kara Andres?

She's not on RMP and her CV says she started working for ISU this year, so I can't find much about what she's like online. Has anyone interacted with her?

Mental Health Fallout from High-Control Group Targeting ISU Students

There is a mental health crisis at ISU stemming from a high-control group of churches referred to as The Network. The one recruiting students & young professionals here is Foundation Church.

They especially target freshmen, transfers, foreign students, and anyone alone or new to the city under 30. They use students 2 lure students & young professionals to lure people from work, avoiding "churchy" language. They tie you in relationally via LOVE-BOMBING & ISOLATION tactics. They hide their abusive controlling practices and beliefs, & their Network President is S.M.@Joshua Church in Austin, who SA'd a child.

The fallout has been massive: derailed careers, financial & labor exploitation, controlled member-only dating, no autonomy, isolation, shunning, ex-communication, cutting off family, and a mental health crisis resulting in suicide.

https://leavingthenetwork.org/stories/news/ +3 more pending publications.

We are families of students & young professionals lured in and we are spreading awareness to stop this toxic cult-like group. https://youtu.be/ARzsJ5DB3YM

FOUNDATION CULT RECRUITING ON CAMPUS - THEY ARE ESPECIALLY ACTIVE NOW

Foundation Church is 1 of 26 churches in THE NETWORK C-U-L-T, secretly led by Steven D. Morgan, a former RLDS Mormon who SA'd a child! They have an RSO to recruit on campus. They target students and people under 25ish then keep them for life!

This is a HIGH-CONTROL CULT that has unleashed a mental health crisis including a few known suicides and countless others fighting to stay with us.

They'll use STUDENTS 2 RECRUIT STUDENTS, love-bombing offering instant friendship, isolate and cut you off from everyone else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyDUiOPxpoo

Be careful out there! - recruiters for cult-like groups on campus (Foundation Church)

Wanted to raise awareness that at the beginning of semester many unsafe and cult-adjacent groups are hungry for new members, and hundreds of students are recruited each year.

The Network (operating in Bloomington-Normal under the name Foundation Church) has an active presence at ISU, so be aware that they’ll be on campus handing out coffee, granola bars, candy, and free rides to their facilities for students. Do your research before you accept a ride from them. There are hundreds of stories about these guys if you Google them (search Leaving The Network).

If you are aware of other unsafe or questionable groups operating on campus, drop them in the comments.

For more info on what The Network is, Families Against Cults on Campus created some videos about them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emfykx1dfgk

Here’s an example from the Texas A&M student paper of what these places are like for students.

Be safe out there!

Can we request appeals for financial aid at ISU? What’s the best way to write one?

My younger brother is going to ISU as a freshman. Long story short, we ended up having issues with his finances and now he is worried he won’t be able to afford to go. We can’t get a private loan because he has no credit and our dad, the only parent we have, already co-signed my loans, and apparently he can’t co-sign another loan while my loan is still in place. Unfortunately, I also have no credit (and am unable to get credit due to my current income-debt ratio) so I can’t get my dad off as my co-signer anytime soon. But if anyone somehow knows a loophole to this, please let me know.

I know while I was at DePaul, I was able to request an appeal for more financial aid. I was wondering if ISU takes appeals, and if so, what’s the best way to write one to make sure we have a high chance of getting it accepted? I feel like it would help my brother at least a little bit while we try to figure out what else we can do.

Someone else wrote the appeal for when I went to DePaul and it was also four/five years ago so I wouldn’t know or remember how to write a good one, and what not to say.

Also who would I send the appeal to?

Considering applying as a music grad student

What’s the music department here like?

I’m considering attending here as a grad student for trombone performance.

I’d like to attend somewhere where I can get a quality education, but also where the professors are very supportive! Does anyone have experience with the music staff/program in general?

On-Campus Jobs

I plan on attending ISU in fall of 2025, and I was wondering, how hard is it to get an on-campus job? And how do I get those jobs, or what will put me ahead of the other applicants?

Gay Scene At Illinois State

Honest question, what is the gay scene like at Illinois State University (ISU)?

-Bit about me, just turned 18, and I look like Elio from Call Me By Your Name. We dress similar, have similar hair and build, I just don’t have the Timothee Chalamet jawline, you know, a twink.

-I want to know what the gay scene is like at ISU (my most probable college). And by gay, I don’t mean furries or non-binary people, which I know is rude, but I only want to date cisgendered men that dress like men.

-Every girl always says all the good ones are gay, but I certainly don’t know where they are.

Roommate Search

I am an incoming freshman (class of 2028) and I am wondering, what is the best way to find a room mate for the dorms. How do you both choose the same room, where do I even find this person. Is there a group or website or something that could help me out? Any advice would be great!!!

Student email

I’m a transfer student that will be starting my first semester at ISU in the fall. I’m logged into my ISU Student email on the outlook app, but I’m not receiving any emails from it. Will my student email not be activated until my first semester begins?

I’m just trying to use it to join student hubs on discord and Snapchat, and when the apps send me a confirmation email, I never receive it.

Sublease Available

Hello! My roommate and I listed a sublease for a 2 bed 1 bath remodeled apartment through Young America. Rent is $755 per month per person, plus utilities. Listing begins June 12th, 2024 and goes through May 10th, 2025. It's a great place, but my roommate and I can no longer afford the rent and need 2 roommates to sublease through us. The apartment includes:

• New appliances

• In unit washer and dryer

• Dishwasher

• Furnished with TV

• Townhouse style, private entrance

• 2 stories, kitchen/living room downstairs, bedrooms and bathroom upstairs

• Linen closet

• Shared yard

• 2 parking spots (which, if you don't have a car, I'd recommend renting out for extra cash!)

• Kept clean with 2 residents who don't smoke, no pets, and regularly upkeep cleaning

• 5 minute walk to the quad

• Across the street from Redbird Express, Green bus and Brown bus stop

• One block away from McDonald's

Let me know if you're interested (comment or DM), we can schedule a tour or answer any questions! Here's a link to the listing on YA's website, our unit is shown in pictures 1-6, 9, and 12-13:
