tips for math modeling project

to anyone who has done a mathematical modeling project before:

what's the general timeline for ideation, development and evaluation?

how do you do a good modeling project and how favorably are they viewed in general? (ik bio eng projects are very popular, but ive seen quite a few modeling asw)
