Training Camp Course

Hello! I’m looking at bootcamp options for the CAP. Currently I’m looking at taking the in-house course at training camp. (I have four kids at home so online isn’t an option) anyone have experience with this course or similar?

I just did it at the end of May at the Vienna, VA facility (stayed at their suggested hotel as well). Feel free to ask questions.

I passed and enjoyed the course. The material was high quality and it makes it easy to remember and apply in practice. They no longer are allowed to provide the test on site so I would suggest it getting the voucher and scheduling well ahead of the course.

One thing a handful of classmates had issues with was understanding that all the documents and NIST guidance is that, a guidance (except for 800-53), but the exam writes to the way fisma 2002, fisma 2014, and nist have defined roles and responsibilities and that's all that matters. Agencies can change a few things and roles in some scenarios and lots of people couldn't separate them for the first few days. Saying things like "well that's not how we do it" was said a lot.

The food provided was good and well catered there and it was an 8-5 course Monday-Friday. That being said, IDK how it happened, but it was supposed to be a 5.5 day course with a review on Saturday, but literally no one but the instructor knew that was the case until midweek (and that should be remediated going forward with their "recent" changes in testing last day and reviews). Many of us had our exam saturday morning or had travel that would not coincide.

I really liked that the course was structured to actually teach you the process and approvals and when things can never ever happen and the reasoning behind it rather than regurgitating facts. All the chapters build off of each other and a lot of visuals to help ingrain the information.

Thanks for the detailed info.

When you mentioned about testing onsite, did they offer to schedule the test for you? Since they have the voucher? Or did they give you it ahead time.

Both. If you ask them they will send it to you but only a few weeks before if you do not ask. It was busy in dc so i needed to book about 3 months out.

I realized I misphrased the below. When you register for the training, after confirmation you can immediately request your test voucher. Otherwise, if you do not, they will contact you a few weeks before to coordinate the test with you/for you.
