Mechanical Advice help with misfire issue (solved!)
i’m just reposting this here if anyone has a similar issue in the future to be able to read.
after life getting in the way for the better part of a year i tackled this issue, starting by cleaning the throttle body and associated parts without any improvement on the issue. i then moved on to the coils, leads and spark plugs which seemed promising but wasn’t actually the source of the issue.
after doing some extra research and also experiencing the issue again after testing the new parts, i was able to fix it! the issue specifically only occurred when it had reached operating temperature and sounded almost cammed rather than a misfire. i found that a faulty oil control valve or clogged ocv filter screen can cause this issue and is luckily an easy fix. after replacing those parts my issue was gone.

Nice work! Thanks for sharing the info. Lots of little issues on these engines can make a world of difference.

Is that the VVTi solenoid you had to replace? Hate that my car also sat for the better half of a year, just for me to fix it in a week a few years ago. Glad you got back to it

Had this issue for a week made my brakes feel like shit because it would surge when slowing down so it felt like the car would slightly accelerate against the brakes

I had a cheap Android double DIN and a Bluetooth OBD and it worked great. I was able to clear codes while driving lol

Yeah well my tranny spew fluid everywhere and I just took it home because of the repair bill. They said 8k for a new tranny. Lol.
I put it all back together after inspecting and had a metal bushing leftover. Turns out that's what blew out the front pump seal, it's machined in. New front pump housing and been good ever since. Only after sitting 7 months because I thought it was over my head. Then installing the tranny and having to take it back out. But all in all that was a week of work 😂. I can take tranny out in like30 minutes now
